Camillus WWII and before!

It has been way too long since anyone posted to this topic.

I picked this up last week off ebay. I had to clean off the rust, but even in the pics I could tell what it was.

High Carbon Steel was a trademark used by Camillus on knives made for Sears, c. 1927-1940, (per Goins). Often they were etched “Sta-Sharp,” though any last vestige of etch was long ago removed by the rust on the blade. It does have shallow pitting on the blades, but the bone is near perfect! There is little snap to the main blade as the tang of the blade is worn down. I realize this will never be worth a bundle, so it just may get some pocket time.

It sure has nice carbon steel!

I want to find more of these!!!!

Here is one I got at the OKCA show last weekend.
It has the 4 line tang stamp, ant the most unique scales I have seen on a Camillus.
It looks like snakeskin, but the handles are smooth.
I suppose they are celluloid, though I see no evidence of shrinking.
Even though the clip blade is about ¼” short, it was just too cool to leave on someone else’s table!

Does anyone else have a Camillus with scales like this one?

Here's a nice old Camillus. Main Blade has old Sword Brand stamp with crossed swords; secondary has the old four line Camillus stamp. I don't know what the scales are; don't see many red ones. Being generic, "some kinda plastic," maybe celuloid? Maybe one of you will know. Would y'all call this a Stockman? I was uncertain with the awl.

I believe what you have there is a
Camillus Sword Brand cattle knife
#3031 with RED PYROLIN scales
3-5/8" long clip,spey and punch blades

I like the bone, but I have not seen bone quite like that on those old jacks.
I wonder if it has been rehandled? Can you tell?
What makes me wonder is that from the pics it appears the color does not go real deep into the bone.

Still in all, it is nice knife. I really like the bone.

Thanks, orvet: maybe during rehandle the hackle was lost. Ramrod:I think that which looks to be notches are just a continuation of the jigging pattern.

A lot of GI`s had time to do this to their personal pocket knives, and it would identify it as their knife if it turned up in someone else`s hands

I'm guessing this one was made back when...how far back I'm not sure. One piece iron liners and bolsters...4 5/8" closed.
Has a faint Sword Brand etch on the blade...I have seen a Ulster with similar locking mechanism. Has great snap and tight lockup.

Just thought I would offer these three different patterns together. An opinion needed. Were I to fashion a bail for the easy open. How much closer to the handle should it be than the Electricians.

This is what makes this the best forum possible, The knife that is being used for a prop is a nice old Challenge. pretty cool cel and knife for not being a Camillus. Thank You Demitri for the bail and pin. Received it less than an hour ago.

Moss, the handles on that old EO are real eye candy for me and you did right by putting a bail back on it. Dimitri is right. It now looks complete. It's an aah moment.

Here's mine. I'm a new collector but this one is a WWII I got today. Any info would be great. Pressed into the handle is R41-K-455 I assume this is an issue number of some sort

I do believe that handle mark is a Cam. marking for military. No idea when though. Do you have any confirmation of WWII. It's not that I doubt what you were told, but substantiation is another story. By itself it may be rather rare and it is in nice condition. The ad knife is nice also.

edit: I just found an article that states the mark on a wood handle would be correct with a 46 to 56 Tang Stamp. The year makes no difference it is still a darn fine example, always nice to see something new.
