Rambo III knife question.

EHH, things are looking grim in the city of rain droplets. What to do? .......... buy another knife and move on.

Congratulations. I think you're going to be very satisfied with that Buck 55.

well the knife is great but i would say but fragile. The tip is so sharp that in the process of making it that sharp.. they have made it very thin. I was cutting a cardboard box and i dropped the knife and now the tip has broken off.

Re-profile the blade. Sharpen it and continue to carry it. You've knocked the new off it now so most likely nothing else is going to happen to it. It'll still make a great carry.

Just thought I'd throw in a few observations:

The early Rambo III knives were pretty well made(I have one hanging on a wall in my basement)but I would not want to carry one.The handle is not comfortable and the knife is way too heavy for anything save maybe whacking at brush(and a machete does a much better job).

I've carried a few folding hunters(Buck 110;Schrade LB7;Rigid Apache)and my biggest complaint with them (aside from their weight on my hip)is they are all handle heavy and working with one makes your hand tired rapidly.Unless you do a lot outdoors,I'd pass on one of them.

One of the best knives I ever carried was a Gerber Model 1(scales look like a gunstock);light weight;large(but thin)blade and grip contoured with finger grooves and checkering.Probably half the weight of a folding hunter and capable of doing the same work.Only down side is they are so expensive(really popular in Japan for some reason)now;several hundred dollars for a good one.

My current EDC is a Leatherman e303;partially serrated blade(about 3")with a Phillips and straight screwdriver built-in and a choice of belt clip(fold-out) or pocket clip(removeable).It is light;has a good grip;and I bought it half price at a local department store($17).It also has a feature called Blade Launch;a slide button on the top that flicks the blade open.It also has a thumb stud.The best part is they are made in the good old USA.

I have since bought an updated version(c33TX)for the same money.It has slightly different scales but functions the same.I also picked up a single blade version for $11 that does not have the blade launch.

For the money they are hard to beat.

I come from the whole rambo era and through the 80's had many knock off rambo style survival knifes,ive even thought recently about picking up a first blood #1 model made by united cutlery, there seems to be a lot of different issue types, although some seem to have a poor sheath,i guess it will be a itch i will scratch on my knife collecting adventures, i still love the shape of those lille knives the large bowie shape with very aggressive sawback made it probably one of the most famous knives in the world,

Well here it is six months later and this past week, I broke the tip off my Buck 055. I took it to the belt sander and now it's a little shorter but still doing the job.
