I've been carrying the little white bone Northfield since late February. It's just about a perfect pocket knife. The red one is a second due to the color evidently but fine otherwise and I got it at a good price. About $20 less that a first.

I've also got a nice Victorinox Pioneer SAK that gets occasional use depending on what I'm doing. A really nice knife for $25.

I plan on adding a Northfield #72 in American Elk to the rotation too.

Dale, I just happen to be an excellent fishing knot tyer in case your hands give you trouble, which I hope they don't.
I also have a very loud whistle in case of bears and I could carry hot coffee and extra flies and stuff. And I don't make too much noise...........Please.....Please...........

Well anyway.......... I lived in Ol' Montan for a wonderful while. Got married there on the Bull River where I had a cabin.
In Sanders County. May I ask where you will be? All the best on your time off.

Thanks guys.

Joe- I will be at Hebgen Lake near Yellowstone.
Should be fun. I may have to take my wife up there later to make it up to her 'cause she has to work.
I guess I could force myself to go to Montana one more time in a year. ::mdm::

Incidentally, I have had pretty good luck finding knives in Montana, especially around Helena. I haven’t been there in 4 or 5 years so maybe they have built their stock back up.

How can a guy turn down a free trip to Montana. Great state no matter what you plan to do there. We'll be expecting pictures as soon as you can after you get back so tie the camera around your neck.

Good luck on the surgery. Make sure they mark where they're going to cut while you're still awake and lucid. Who knows with the VA. You could go in for surgery on your hand(s) and come home castrated.

Sad state of affairs around here, what with surgical mistakes, parts missing, etc...

Jerry, I'm with you, one knife is enough. And I'll go another step, one blade is enough. I wouldn't have thought this little $10 knife would end up in my pocket more often than not, but that's what it amounts to. Utica made it on contract for Proto Tools.

Trail, I have one of those. I think I got it for a dollar on eBay. It's a Klein (made by Utica) with a blade that someone made quite a mess out of, using the much feared electric grinder. I have the blade fairly well straightened out and when I can afford it, I would like to get it re handled. I would carry it but for the Buck 055 I feel obligated to because it's a gift from one of my best friends. Nothing against the Buck.

I am not disputing that Utica made those, but I am curious as to the source of that info, just for my own knowledge.

Those look very much like the Camillus rope knife. I know Camillus made the same pattern. Camillus also made the TL-29s for Proto. I do have S-cards from Camillus on the production of Klein electrician knives as well as those made for Proto.

More knife mysteries.............I love it! ::woot::

Dale, a couple of reason I think it is a Utica, although if it turned out to be a Camillus I wouldn't be shocked. An identical knife, except for a serrated blade, is currrently in the Knife Center catalog http://www.knifecenter.com/item/UT11142801/ listed as a Utica. When I say identical I mean right down to the pattern in the plastic handle. I ordered one, and after a long wait, they sent me a Proto of the same pattern. Then I saw a group of the straight bladed Protos listed on ebay, and the seller stated they were made by Utica. I bought two, and now wish I had bought a dozen of them, because I haven't been able to find any more of the straight edged - they still have the serrated ones at Knife Center. So I think it is likely that Utica is making this pattern now. When I first saw the Uticas at Knife Center, I posted here that it looked like Utica might have picked up some of the Camillus tooling, there were so many of the old Camillus patterns listed as Uticas, but I heard back that Utica had made those patterns for years. http://www.allaboutpocketknives.com/kni ... ilit=utica I have a few of the Camillus ones as well, they are my favorite knives. I just carry the Proto to save using up my Cams.
