Schatt Congress Steel

Post by ilikeknives »

Quick question anyone?
The 2005 4-set of 4431 jumbo congresses (MOP, Burgundy, Crimson, Golden Root) (embellished/stamped bolsters)(100 of ea, 400pcs total)
I cannot tell by looking at the boxes or blade etches what steel was used. I know they use ATS-34 on the F&W series, however these set(s) do not indicate what steel was used.
Any help is great help ::mdm:: .
I know one of us knows this answer, please forgive my oversight or ignorance if it is blaring. ::dang::
Damn happy to be here among friends.-Glenn
EDIT- can't find pic of my crimson, hmmmm.

The large signature bolster Congress that you are referring to are made with 420 ss. BTW, there was also a Winterbottom bone handle version.
Just like all the annual Reproduction Series knives since `2000, most all SFO's are 420ss. There have been a few SFO's in 1095 carbon steel but only about half a dozen that I can think of.

Hope this helps,

Dave

Nice gunstocks Men!
That Stag Rev. Stockman is my favorite pattern & favorite handle material. Thanks S-K
Those 2 blades are one of my favorite SFO's Tank, I ended up buying 2 of those sets, 1 for X-mas presents. 1 for me!
I'm not sure if he has any Premier railsplitter's left but try C. Risner at http://www.schattandmorgan.com or http://www.crisnercutlery.com

Clarence is a great guy to deal with.

This new File & Wire Mountain Man has REALLY caught my imagination. The 2 ATS-34 blades took a great edge, this one's going in the saddlebags. It'll be a great camp knife! A BIG 'ol hand full ::tu::
Now I guess I'm going to have to get another for the collection. ::dang::
