Messages stuck in out box?

Messages stuck in out box?
I was just wondering if messages sit in the out box until they are opened by the recipient or have I done something wrong? One has been there since yesterday and another since this morning. Any help appreciated. Thanks.

I had one in my outbox for almost a year to my good friend Perry Coleman (aka Singin 46) He had gone awol and we were worried about him. I finally deleted it and low and behold, a week later he shows back up on the forum in full swing after many moons! lol! Must have been me deleteing my querry about him!
