One of my clients once said, "Just because I'm paranoid, doesn't mean they aren't out to get me." The same could be said about conspiracy theories. Just because I see conspiracy theories, doesn't mean they are real.

I think many people forget that the government of China is based on communism. The basic tenet of communism is, world domination. I think the Chinese have found it is easier to dominate the world economically than through war. Either way it is still domination.

I was at Chimart (Wal-Mart) recently and ask to see a new pattern of a Buck knife in their display case (their display case with pictures of knives). The young clerk found the knife and handed it to me. I was a bit puzzled because the fit and finish of the knife was not up to Buck's normal standards, until I turned it over and saw "China" etched on the back of one of the blades. I laid the knife on the counter and said, " I dodged too much Chinese steel in Vietnam to buy any now." I turned abruptly and left. I looked back and he was standing there with his mouth open and a Duh look on his face.

Then again, I am the kind of guy who won't buy Nike products because many are made in Vietnam. We still have a few thousand POW and MIAs unaccounted for in Vietnam. I would not want to buy a pair of shoes that was made by slave labor from one of my brothers in arms.

So, if your diatribe is insane, it is my kind of insanity and I understand it. Thanks for sharing and carry on!

I agree 100% on your Chinese/communist comment!
I'll just keep this short since it is merely a comment on China. While China is communist, they have adopted some western ideology such as farmers owning their own land and incentives to do well for individuals, seemingly leaning towards socialism. Whether it is a facade or not matters little, they seem to have found the magic bullet that the USSR couldn't. They are waging and winning a global economic war and currently dominate many industrial markers particularly in manufacturing and engineering. I don't mean to sound like a dooms day soothsayer as some of my posts must surely sound regarding China.
Here is a link from USA Today, I guess they run sort of middle of the road compared to some of my other readings. It's fairly short, but 2 years old and China's growth has surpassed expectations in those 2 years.

It's not all Doom and Gloom, still doesn't make me happy. India is included in this, each state in India can choose their own government. The state of Kerala in India was Democratically elected Communist (1957) last I read, the Kerala experiment, 2004. Actually it seems more left leaning Marxist.

Alrighty then..
Tom has sent me some page from the archives of Camillus. I like these, and I hope you do as well. First up is the Lone Ranger. And then Dick Tracy. The latter page has a date on it, 1950, and I think the Ranger is from the same time frame. Note both come with a usefull thong, the Ranger's being genuine leather, the Tracy model's is of plastic. It is a real find to come across one of these knives with the thong still intact.

The Color pic is a complete display card that recently sold for big bucks at auction. Nice find.

Here is the AA51 model. I think it is the largest of the series at 5" closed.

Camillus used S-Cards from the early 1900's through 1988 to record manufacturing specs and sometimes quantities produced. After 1988 the records were computerized and this information is deleted after no longer being needed.

I was at Lemoyne from 1962 to 1966, Tom. And did a "polar bear" swim in Green Lakes State park a few times, when the ice broke up!
Motorcycled in the Adirondacs, and Finger Lakes areas..... Beautiful country! Do you live in Camillus, N.Y?
For those of you reading this, Camillus is just a few miles from Syracuse, and in the middle of the areas I mentioned.

Some more display cards as sent from the factory to dealers, here are the advertising for them. First up is Davy Crockett. Certainly a childhood hero of mine. I even had a coonskin cap. Loved it. How about this.... all the knives, looks like all barlows, come with a rabbits foot for good luck. I remember when all us kids had to have one of them.

And Daniel Boone wasn't left out, either. Here is the ad material and dealer display cards from that frontier hero. We all remember Fess Parker as Daniel, I am sure. These too have a rabbits foot, and are a barlow. Note that the actor's name is used, as is his likeness, so we can proably assume that he got a percentage, or maybe just the TV studio did.

And finally, a neat fixed blade, same tie in with Fess and his TV show. I have never had one of these, although Camco made a bunch with ivory colored handles, and the little boy I gave one of them to was as thrilled as if I'd just given him a brand new Randall. And ideal first knife.

I note that Camco used the same basic knife in other issues.

Thank Tom for sending me this material for posting here. Our next commemorative knife/hero will be Buford Pusser, and I have some great stuff on that.

Here is another proponant of the coon skin cap. As a kid I was not allowed to have one since there was a scare in the papers that wearing it would make your hair fall out. I still have a full head of hair I was wondering if any one knew if that rumor was true or false. What about it Phil??

And yes, LT... I can report that without a doubt, coonskin caps do make your hair fall out. However, considering the adventures I had as a child, I think it all was worth it. By the way, my mom sometimes called me the 'Great Scout' as I would take off for parts unknown with a canteen and my dog and my knife and coonskin cap. She read a lot of Frank Yerby novels, so I think the original 'Gr8Scout' must have been a charactor in one of them.

On another subject, recently in this thread, I showed some nice pics from the factory that Tom had lent to me to copy and post. And yesterday those pics arrived at my door in another form, on the cover of a catalog-.. the 120th year Catalog '5'.

Would there be any interest in my starting a Camillus Catalog Thread? I have a lot of information, but info such as this is meant to be shared. I may not do every catalog page by page, but I would hit the highlites of every issue. Please let me know.

Camillus has always gotten the short end in knife books, IMO. Any information about the brand would be well received, I'd expect.

Was looking for an old poster/ flyer Camillus has of there military knives and thought would find here but no luck . Did read thru this thread and found it very interesting .Still would like to find that flyer or poster! Think it was “ Camillus goes to war “ and showed all there military stuff of that time . It was WW2 time period IIRC . Anyone have one for sale or trade or can guide me to a source that would great .
