A Tiny Flintknapped Knife..............

Post by knife7knut »

Got this little gem in the mail today after winning it on e-Bay.I don't bid on stuff there anymore unless the seller is willing to accept postal money orders.Fortunately some still do that.
This is a first for my collection;somehow I have never run across one that was priced reasonably as this one was.Not sure who the maker was but it appears to be well made even if it is not all that sharp. Not sure of the handle;maybe a racoon or other small animal's jawbone and it is affixed with what looks to be some type of hair(possibly horsehair).
The obsidian is barely translucent but is knapped very symmetrically. And the best part was the price:$1.04 plus $7 shipping.
It was advertised as a letter opener which it could very well be.I have found many nice knives advertised as such including a couple of really nice small dirks with sheaths(commonly but erroneously called prostitutes daggers)for really short money.Anyway here it is for all to enjoy.

Excellent knapping. I have a source of black obsidian about 60 miles from me. I am going to start serious knapping as soon as I retire.
