well, as hard as I've tried to get a good pic of the tang..I couldn't
tried scanning,taking the pic outside for natural light,flash/no flash...
don't know what else to try.
I'm open to new ideas if anyone has any.

If you have a flatbed scanner, you can get good pics of tang stamps most of the time.

yeah I just tried that today after making a light box or whatever..
half the problem I think is that the stamp is so light.
There has to be a way though...working on it..

Scan it. Save it with a high resolution with PhotoShop or any other good program. Then crop out just the tang mark. Then enlarge the resulting photo to 4"x4", etc.
You'll get scans like this one, which, by the way, almost looks etched.

You must have a better scanner than I Charlie,mine just won't focus on the tang.
but here's a couple I got with the cam.
I know if I take some with my 35mm I can get some good ones,just need a $12.00 batt.

I use a high-res scanner for these. I'm not sure who made them though . . . .
I am sure the tangs are stamped.

I thought I would add this picture to the thread. The Kinfolks made knife, marked Tryon. The Fox AE, shipped to E.K. Tryon in 1911. We have a couple more Tryon marked knives somewhere, but we are packing for a move next month, and can't do pictures for a while.

that Kinfolks is of course just like the Catt knife of that same time period.
I had a chance to buy an old Tryon leather shotgun case awhile back..neat stuff.
