Blade pitch is too high

Is there anything a novice like me can do to rest the main blade deeper in the knife?
Short of filing the down the tang of course. When I slip the screw driver in between the spring and blade, the blade rests correctly but the backspring does not. But when I take the screw driver out, the blade rests higher than it should be and the backspring rests too low in the liners. FYI, the main blade is also very loose when opened. C'mon experts!
This is not an expensive knife but one I was hoping to save. Also the only EZ I have in my collection.

Shim the back spring on the end pin, where your left thumb is, (second pic), from the back of the spring, slack and (hammer) down the main blade pin to tighten the blade. Remember I'm no expert, just trial and error, it works. Worn end of tang or spring even worn pin could be the cause.

It has been my experience that the steel on the Imperial blades tends to be softer than the springs, and the tang wears down from years of use. That is probably the reason for the loose-ness. Like gary said, I have seen a shim used.

Try that screw driver from the other end, of the knife, and see what happens.

Does this type and brand of knife have an exposed end pin or does it go through the spring?

If not the knife will have to be dismantled and the spring at the pivot area will have to be punched on it's sides to raise that area of the spring "make the spring thicker at the pivot area". This will take up the slack and also raise the back of the spring to it's proper location.
This procedure can also fix a weak snap.

If it goes through the spring, can you compress the spring at the front with a vise and spring wedge to get more tension, or just file the tang so it sits down? The kick.

It depends if the knife still has a good snap.
Then filing down the kick will lower the blade.
But watch your nail nick. you don't want to lose it behind the forward blade.
The compression you would need to change the springs shape would destroy the knife.
And if the knife has a weak or no snap filing down the kick could make things worse.
Sometimes changing out the pivot pin with a larger diameter one can fix this problem.

Wait till you get more answers to this post.
Hopefully someone else has an easier and less evasive procedure to fix your problem.

Well I can't thank you guys enough for responding. I went with the shim idea because this knife is too cheap to fool with it for too long. K-A-Q,because the knife is an EZ opener I wasn't too worried bout the nail nick. I appreciate your imput greatly because future projects will need this info to complete properly.

Hey Trey, I used a small piece of metal that I put in between the spring and the blade.
I installed it with a hammer, very carefully.

If this knife is going to be a user, I would think that type of quick fix won't last that long and the shim will eventually work it's way out plus make the pivot area ware out faster.
If the knife is a show piece then that type of fix would be perfect.
If you are going to use the knife, let us know how it works out for you.
I can always use a new trick to fix a knife quicker and without breaking down the knife.
