Ivory is Magnificent!

Well I have missed emotions about Ivory Scales. I wouldnt want to support the elephant poacher, and yet these handles are so magnificent!

They were added to this knife after production. I realized this when I got the knife and looked inside. I suspected such, but still wanted the knife. Great RARE piece to hold.

Here are two knives that I had scrimshawed...

For best results, you find a very tallented artist with a lot of patients to put tons of little bitty holes in ivory and then smearing ink over the holes. The ink stays in the holes, and wipes off of the rest of the piece. Shading, etc. is achieved by varying the density, deapth, and /or size of holes I think...???

Look at me pretending like I'm an expert scrimshawer or something

It is one of my favorite forms of art.

In all seriousness... Nudes seem to be one of the most popular subjects matters for scrimshaw.

I do like the idea of scrolled bolsters. I dont think I can afford the scrimshaw. It sure is awesome work tho!!!

Love the knife with the Big minnow

eating the Little minnows. Up here in Wisconsin be use the Big Minnow for bait.

They do come with a BS Certificate, signed by yours truly.

But really, I do love that knife, it is a real beaut.

I'll trade you my can of frozen Wisconsin air and a two gallon bucket of real Wisconsin snow for it.

I see Bryan posted the picture of buttercup again... I agree with him shes a favorite of mine ... The artist that did the scrimshaw on that knife is Howard Thomas >> I did the web design on his web page so I got a deal on the scrimshaw work... But he and his wife are real nice folks to work with and the cost is resonable... They sell many knives on E Bay and there website is at http://www.sailorsdream.com In the gallery all the knives in the top row are mine... Ive also made a website for another scrimshaw artist named Lorne who has a site at

Ok,
Here's one more. I'm still working on the picture thing, sorry.

This is one of the "Magnificent Seven"... (just a small joke, as there were seven of these made

) ...the D'holder UNFOLDER. It's a 5" fixed blade with Mammoth scales, made for pocket carry.
