What's the best bargain you ever got on a knife?

just to start a new thread, what's the best bargain you have ever gotten, whether it be yard sale, estate auction etc. Several years ago i picked up a nice never sharpened case kodiak with beautiful stag for like $18.00. whats your story? I would post a pic ,but I'm sure just about everyone here knows what that one looks like.

Dare I say, I bought this one for £5.00 ($9.00ish). Wade, Wingfield and Rowbotham stag pen knife from the 1800s. Handles perfect and still good snap.

Went to a yard sale many years ago [ about 30 ] and asked if they had any knives,woman went into the house and came out with a box of about 15 german knives.PIC,Solingen,stag and others.Paid her $ 5.00 for the whole box,kept some and sold the rest for about 100.00

I just got a good deal today, at least I hope it is. I will know more when I get the knife. It is a 44OT Workmate. The only 4 bladed knife in the Old Timer line. I have been watching for them for a long time and haven;t seen any on for 4 or 5 months. Two weeks ago one popped up on ebay, but went for $150..........out of my league for that knife. Then about a week ago one sold for $81, again more than I am willing to pay for a production Old Timer. Tonight I finally won an auction for one, still in the box, for $55. Not the best bargain I have ever gotten, but a good deal none-the-less, and my most recent bargain.

Before I was into serious collecting, in the late 1980's, I saw a knife I liked at a local gun show, and bought it for $10! A fixed blade in its original tube sheath, it turned out to be a completely full, but "patina-ed" Marbles Dall DeWeese (sp?)!! Not hunting any more, it lived in my desk drawer, where I marvelled from time to time at its simple elegance.
Looking for money to buy folders, a friend suggested I sell it on ebay, so he put it up for me! I didn't know how in 2001, a true techno-phobe!
When the bid reached $750, I was on the edge of my chair, I can tell you!
In the last 20 seconds, three bids hit it driving it to $960!!!
That sale really set the hook on my collecting activities. So I continue, like all of us I assume, looking for that Great Deal out there!!
That knife is probably worth twice the price today, giving an idea of what makes a good investment!

last yearin oklahoma city and a antique store i bought a wr case&sons green swirl humpback sleave board type knife in real good condition for 65$, i sold it on fleabay a few months later for a little under 300 buck.

Hmmm.....never really just "stole" anything, got a '71 6380 big whittler, a '73 Muskrat, '70 6292 Texas Jack, and a XX Redbone Jack (6216??) for about $40 each, all mint, in a local pawn shop about 6 mos ago. I was very happy!!!

Here is my best 2 knife deals plus. I went to gun show in upstate NY and noticed a group of sheath knives on a guys table for sale. One looked really special and since I was collecting pocket knives I did not know much about sheath knives but had read Levine's guide and remembered knives made by a man named Richtig. The price was 20.00. It is worth maybe 3,000 at this point.

On ebay I noticed a knife listed as a small bowie. I ended up paying 31.00 for that one. It turned out that the seller was the son of Richtig's doctor and after his death the family gave the knife to the doc as a thank you for helping them. Possible worth between 750 and 1200.

Last story is not about a knife but a tennis racket. I was in an antique shop and noticed an old tennis racket marked Winchester As Good As The Gun. Knowing nothing about tennis rackets but thinking what the heck 4.00 is not going to kill me. I ended up selling it for 400.00

Best deal I got was Dec. 05 when Lowes stopped handleing Case Knives picked up two Blue Bone Trappers for $8.75 a piece

That is a pretty knife.

I got one too, when Lowes' closed them out. I have never used it as I don't like their stainless, but the blue bone is nice.

I guess the best "bargain" I have ever managed is a Case Classic Saddlhorn with a Gowanda tangstamp. I got it for aobut $60 and later managed to grab a box for it for free. I'd call that a pretty good deal.

How long ago was this? ....I think these knives have been going for around $150 & more nowadays + getting a free Case Classic box to boot, I would say you did very well my knifer friend!

It was just a lucky stroke in April of 2005. Saw it on eBay and knew what it was but it didn't have any bids on it with just a minute to go. I took a shot and got lucky. It was mint but was dirty. Cleaned up perfectly.

Another bargain might be my copy of the Case Classics Best in the Long Haul book. Found mine for $40 and haven't seen one go for much less that $125 since. Also begged the 2001 value guide from Buzz Parker at Bulldog Knives.

Hmmm.... I am beginning to think I should carry a sign "Will Work for Knives"

i guess one of the best deals i got was an Olsen fixed blade i found
at a knife show for 50$. I already had this model so i put it on ebay
and it sold for $280. I'll take THOSE any day of the week!

Years ago, I was in a antique mall and saw a old pocket knife in a ziplock bag hanging on the wall for $5.00. I did'nt even try to jew them down any, just bought it. A real OLD Holly doctors knife with horn handles, long spear and spatula blade. A truely awesome knife. It was hard to look at anything else in the mall, I was so excited. I later sold it for around $200.00. This was probably 15 or 20 years ago.
