Does it say "Bos ATS34" on the backside of the blade?
Paul Bos is the guy who used to do the heat-treating for Buck.
He was a real wizard at heat-treating stainless steel!

Re: Need info for a 277T...Stag
Carl,
I think the model number is 277, a model called the Alpha Hunter.
The character you are reading as the letter “T” is not part of the model number but is the year the knife was manufactured. The symbol T (looks like an upper case “T”) is the symbol used on knives made in 2003.
I checked Buck’s website and the 277 is no longer available, but the 276 is still listed:
http://www.buckknives.com/index.cfm?eve ... uctID=3086
Looking for 277’s on ebay, I did not find any with ATS-34 steel, so yours seems to be a steel upgrade. Probably $125 to $150 when new, (my guess).
IIRC, the Alpha Hunters were rather popular, and some folks were complaining when they were discontinued.
My best recollection is that they were discontinued 3 – 4 years ago.
Hope this helps.
Maybe one of the Buck collectors will know more info.
Here is a copy of the newest BUCK date chart.
The symbols tell you what year the knife is made, projected through 2022.

Not my area, but know the stag is the high end of the scale types.
As stated the blade steel is upgrade also.
I believe Dale has covered the info pretty well. There are a few people that collect these that post in other forums.
