Hi All,
I am new to the forum, but have been a knife nut for many years. I have a Remington 3" jack that I have been unable to find, but now that I have found your site maybe I can get a little help. The knife is a 2 blade marked 2250. There is no R in front of the # and the larger blade is marked Remington (in the circle) made in USA. The small blade is marked Remington (in the circle) UMC. The handle material is a yellow cracked ice with an elongated shield. I am posting a poor picture but at least it will give you an idea of what it looks like. Thanks in advance and God bless. cordell

Remington 2250
Hello remington collector,
I tend to agree with you, I can't find it anywhere either, but what has me stumped is the quality of the knife. I have checked it up one side and down the other and can't find any of the tell tale marks that would indicate it might be a re assembled knife. The other point that has me confused is, if this is a fake why would someone who has perfectly marked tangs, (re Remington logo) mark the pattern incorrectly
? I also have left over from my collection (I sold the majority of my knives over the past 4 years) a 2 blade Remington Barlow (straight line marking) that has no pattern #(RB 43). Is this normal with Remingtons???? I kept a few of the knives I thought might be a nice start for my Grandson and 5 or 6 of them are Remingtons. I primarily collected Case knives and would pick these up when they were in with a group of others that I wanted. Thanks for the help with the above and God bless you and yours. cordell

I've found that some counterfeiters will purposely put an incorrect pattern number on the blade. I'm just guessing, but it may be that they don't want someone to compare their knife to a known authentic example of the same pattern, or it could be that they want people to think that because they can't find the number in a book, thats its a rare and valuable knife. Who knows?
As far as the missing pattern numbers, late in the 30's Remington began inking on the pattern numbers as opposed to stamping. This was one way to cut costs without cutting back on quality . This inking wore away quickly. Its not uncommon to find knives that have recevied very little use, and yet the number has already been worn off. Remington knives with a legible inked pattern number will generally bring a premium over knives with a stamped pattern , all other things being equal.

remington collector,
Thank you for your help, I also have it posted on another site and unfortunately I think I am going to come up with the same diagnosis
. Well on a brighter side I paid $40.00 for this many years ago and the worst thing that can happen at this point is, I will have an attractive fake to give my Grandson. Take care, thank you for the good advice, and God bless you and yours. cordell
