I do not disagree with your premise, would be a heck of a job with the peened Pommel. Either that or it was intentional and the knife was meant to be used upside down.
EDIT: After looking at it a bit the guard could not be turned upside down as that would put the handle carrier facing down. The guard would have to be rotated 180 degrees with the same result of moving the proper guard end in place for protecting the hand from slipping forward onto the blade.

heres one i really fond of 13 1/2 inches overall queen city tang stamp this is stamped #07 there was supposed to be 30 made but i was told they only ended up making 20 because of the length of stag , bought mine a few years ago reasonable, seen one of its sisters go through ebay a couple of months ago for over $400

Those Warenski's and Draper are nice, it is unfortunate they are beyond my knife budget. Now, the Queen just might be affordable for me. It is nice.

Here's my biggest (a 14" Winchester bowie) and smallest (tiny 1 blade folder with Japan stamped on the tang), with a dollar bill and dime for scale. Just wish the Winchester box didn't have "China" printed on it but that's how it goes.

I posted this one before, it's just a new replacement of my old childhood's Sicilian Boy Scout Knife. It is 15" in overall length.

A real bonding experience with Dad. Of course, being a younger boy I wanted the latest and greatest. But Dad wanted it to be a learning experience, and insisted on just buying me the small one.

Just found one that could be fun if any one else is interested. It is marked on sheath and blade.
Widder made in West Germany. "Original Bowie Knife", Have had several of these over the years
and with the exception of a few they are generally well made. This I think is one of the fun things about knives. Some of the darn things do get rather spendy. The one about two thirds of the way through that I marked with some Bars after both lines was especially great. The seller says it could be an important knife and it had old as opposed to new rust on the blade. If you noticed the different names you will not see a WIDDER in the list so I guess mine must be rare. I told my buddy I bought it from that it must be a really old knife being the Original and all, My gosh could have been from only a few years after the Sandbar duel where it is somewhat excepted that Jim the Bowie used the first one to dispatch a fella who was about to kill him. If the handle was bone instead of wood it could have been "Sandbar Stag". Aint it amazing how that term is not used much anymore.

Mossdancer, According to legend Bowie used his knife..... blade up. Parried with the swedge and supposedly had a brass cover over spine to catch and slow down the opponents blade edge.

Thanks for the info. My previous post was somewhat tongue in cheek. Your premise of use with blade upside down makes the knife I posted back a page or two become more viable.

Here are four of the hunter style from Gerber. The Bottom is a Big Hunter, the second and third up are Magnum Hunters. The top is an Abercrombie and Fitch Hunter. The first made for hunters made and sold by A & F. This example is truly in rough condition but considering they only produced something over 325 of them in two years of production 1947 and 1948 you take what you can get. This is the only one I have ever seen for sale and the blade was in pieces. I had a Jeweler weld it back together and she did a fine job. I have carefully considered the roughness of the blade and there is just not enough left to refinish and have any profile integrity left. You can see that the blade is a long clip and the other three are straight back edge. The A&F will be identified by the patent number of the Lamb Handle(about 1945) on the bottom and the Gerber and A&F on either side. Gerber lost the right for use of handle in 1951 in a court proceeding. Gerber-10 indicates the knifes year as 1948.

I just got this great machete made by Collins, right here in old Connecticut.
Their old factory is still there. I go by it every once in a while.
22 inch blade.

No they don't, and I guess I can see why. They're pretty much straight forward beaters.
I wanted this one because it's from Collinsville, Connecticut. Just up the road. And it had the leather sheath, and it was big. It needs some care.
Iron hoarder had some really sharp looking Collins', and I have seen others that have a real nice looking line to them. I don't mind being around machetes.

This one was made in Guatamala. I have read about Collins' Connecticut works, but I don't know any thing about Collins' South American Manufacturing.
But it is a big assed knife. That's what I was looking for.

Picked up some grist for the mill yesterday, here is a big'un and it's counterpoint. Should you ever run across a PABU at a sale at a price grab it. Their specialty is the BaliSong. They make a fine cutter also, The bitty Ken Ward is just cool and great workmanship.
