A Robeson Electrician's Knife

This is not my knife. I only wish it were. It sold on Ebay a few years ago. It went way beyond my means.

This is, by far, the nicest example of this great old pattern I have ever seen.

I do not even have an example. I think most of them got used, as they were intended.

Any of you electrician's knife collectors have one of these?

It's been at least three years, probably more. I have a terrible sense of elapsed time.
It sold for $354.00. More than I could afford, at the time. At one time I would have put a $600.00 bid on that knife.

Hate to admit that.

I'm pretty sure that I have one (though not nearly as nice as this one) , but I will have to "dig around" in my "archives" to see if I can find it . The one you posted is the only other one that I have seen .

I think that many users of this type of knife remove the bail so they can carry it in their pocket instead of clipping it to a work belt . Also they are more proficient at their trade than knife care and they only look at their knife as a tool to be "used up" .

Paul, that is a very nice example of a most rare Robeson pattern. The knife was made for amateur radio hobbiests and the master blade was etched "RADIO SPECIAL".

Did you get that knife from George Leray? He had a nice one on Ebay last week. He had a very nice Buy-It-Now price on it, too.

That one is a dandy.

The only one of those I ever came close to buying turned out to have a welded master blade.

I'm always amazed by how small these knives are when I actually see one in person. They always look larger in photographs. I think the length is 3 1/2", maybe a tad longer.

thanks guys, yes i bought it from george he gave me a deal on this one and that bolster lock fishing knife. battery dead in camera will post other one later. if you hold the blade at the right angle it says radio special . its a little shy of 3 1/2

Those are both good knives. I'm glad you got them. They are both rare patterns.
I actually think the bolster lock fish jack is the better of the two knives. That's just a personal liking.
The fish jack that I have has been cleaned in the past. I didn't have it done, though. I thought about making George an offer on that one as an upgrade and selling the one I have, but I'm just not spending those kinds of monies on knives in this current economy.

BTW; Be careful with the bolster lock when the blade is open and the lock deployed, as the bone there is not supported by an underlying liner when the blade is open.

Very nice examples one and all!
I saw an easy open like that one time and it was too many $$$ for me.
I was happy to recently find a Robeson TL 29 at the flea market that was still in good cond except lots of "patina".(rust)
And although many would have left it crapy looking I had to clean er up a bit

Here is a plain Robeson tl-29 style electrician's knife. Nothing like the exotic beauties above, but a great knife in good used condition. I can never have enough of these, especially when the price is right and it is a new for me stamp. This one will go in a roll with the Camillus, Pal, Holub and Klein electricians.

Nice old Roberson and even better utica . last week i couldn't resist a keen cutter adjustable wrench when looking for knives

Thanks, Paul, I bought a small collection of the Utica tools at a nearby antique mall a while back and posted them in the Other Sharp Objects thread under "Snips, Cutters and Pliers." I 'd be honored if you put a photo of your Keen Kutter adjustable wrench in that thread. The old tools are so far superior to what you can buy new there is no comparison.
