What is the difference between "Real or Genuine Stag" and "Burnt Stag"?

Both are genuine stag, burnt stag is a cosmetic treatment of genuine stag.

Would burnt stag be like a second cut on the antler after the gnarly stuff is taken off and then cut to simulate the first cut and then burned to simulate the color? Does that make sense?

Thanks Basser and and ClassicCase. I'm just trying to deside on what handle material to buy. Seems the burnt stag is a little cheaper than genuine or real stag. Probably go with the burnt.

TJ________it's really hard to tell the difference,sometimes ____GEC,does not pin,the shield,to there Genuine Stag ( they give it to ya' as a hatpin )______the genuine stag,has not been altered,where as the burnt stag,is stag,that has been ""torched"" to high-light some color of the stag___i have some burnt stag,that is better looking than some genuine,and vice-versa ____pick you out something pretty ""To You""___good luck,Monk

I think burnt or torched stag, is the process that gives the stag it's colors. Second cut is a jigging process after a piece of stag has been cut and there is almost smooth stag left. Someone correct me if I'm wrong. knfmn

Here are a couple of examples of some good looking old Stag. The fixed blade is a Union Cut Co/Kabar and the folder is a Case XX hunter.

I think you're right Wosey. From what I am understanding, not all stag is color highlighted? That some stag just needs a little paint, in the form of a flame. My main reason for asking the question is that "genuine or real" stag is slightly more expensive than "burnt". I'm considering purchasing a knife and it comes with either type stag handles. I'll probably go with the burnt and save a couple of bucks.

I will take the "torched stag" every time. I collect bulldogs and the torched will bring a premium every time. Also a higher book price. To me the torched stag is regular stag that has been "torched" I would consider "burnt stag" to be the same thing. Correct me if I am wrong here.
