GEC PROTOTYPE KNIVES

Any opinions on GEC's prototype knives?
There seems to be a bunch of them available and there doesn't seem to be much demand.
I bought one recently because it was the only example left of a particular knife that I wanted.
I would think that they would be in demand in time and would appreciate more in value than the other knives and yet they just sit there in the shops, no buyers. Greg at TSA must have about 50 OR MORE available right now.
I'm thinkin' about buyin' another proto but thought I'd see if I could get some opinions here before I pull the trigger.
Anyone here pick up a proto yet?

Wilder, yes i have about 10 for the same reason . wanted some of the 2007 & 2008 could only find protos. they were still fresh in the wrapper.

The GEC prototype I have happens to be the one and only hemlock green bone Tidioute
sunfish produced in 2009. They've also switched to all steel after this particular knife.
I really don't think about value, as I find it cool to just own a piece of GEC history.

That's a beautiful knife!

I certainly understand your approach to collecting.

Owning these knives is a pleasure, appreciation or not.

But I'm collecting on behalf of my 2 year old grandson in hopes that the eventual sale of my collection will be a help in providing him with a college education so value is significant to me.

i think prototype knives are very cool, but they're way too expensive for what they are.
they're usually listed for more than twice the price of the regular issue - i don't get that.
gec has made loads of knives limited to 2 or 3 pieces, and those don't sell for twice their "normal" value.
if they were 50% more, or something like that, i'd buy a few.
100%+ more?
no way.
it's pretty clear that their current price point is unacceptable to most buyers, given the fact that the vast majority of them have gone unsold.

I believe mito hit the nail on the head. Too expensive in my eyes, as well.

Same here, just way too expensive for what they are. I own custom knives, some built to my specifications (one a Prototype itself, first of a kind, a 1 of 1 with no others like it) that did not cost me as much as some of GEC's prototypes.
