US PAL

Curious as to when this bayonet was used and if PAL if a good name. the only marking i see on it are US and PAL.... thanks

That would be a Garand bayonet. From around mid '43 on through WWII up to the Korean conflict when the M-5 was issued if I recall correctly.

They started out as 16" blades as used on on the 1903's in WWI and up. It was found that the shorter blade was preferred and it did not use as much steel in manufacture. There are a lot of 10" bayonets that were cut down from 16". The fuller runs the length of the blade unlike yours which was made as 10" bayonet.

It will also fit an M1903 or M1903A3.

Nice bayonet and scabbard. The value of those things has skyrocketed in recent years. Beware of made up blades if you intend to gather more. Like Case and some other big league name pocket knives, US and German militaria is quite often counterfeited. Knowledge is power.

PAL is a good name. I would be interested to know if it has a "flaming bomb" under the PAL logo and a date of manufacture.

Can you post a close up pic of the blade markings?

Thanks for the detailed info. Im on vacation so I'm not around home to take any pics but when I return I will. I dont believe there is a date marked on it but it does have a flaming bomb marking. What is that significance of that?
