TJ it is my understanding that many ladies used to keep a small pocket knife in their sewing kit. Often times that knife would be a small pressbutton that would allow them to pop the blade open with the push of a button. Speaking of that;here is one that came directly from a granny's sewing basket.Got it from a friend of mine who got it from his grandmother's estate.The blades have never been sharpened and the edges flattened from years of cutting thread.The closeup of the scales shows where the thread was repeatedly dragged across them wearing grooves into them.Even came with a nice little chamois pouch.I left the blades untouched.I found out later that this one is somewhat rare in that the master blade is a clip rather than the more common spear.philco wrote:

With that said, it seems reasonable to me that one might find a knife with a specialized blade used for sewing work.
