Dilemma Wife gave me the "Case" fixed blade

Post by testcase »

My dear wife is always trying to find me a knife as she scours yardsales and auctions. She came home tonight all excited with this....
Fake Case.jpg
I don't know anything about Case Fixed blade knives but I am pretty sure this ain't one. It isn't a badly made piece but I suspect it may be chinese and if I haven't made it clear how I feel about China and its knives by now you haven't been listening lol
It has no country of origin marked on it...

How do I break the news to her?

I'd just thank her and make her feel that she's made me a happy man. Tell her that you appreciate it but not to spend too much money on them on any more she finds.

I would weld it to the cutting edge of my snow plow blade, at least that way I could get some use out of it and at the same time make it disappear ::nod::

My buddy who was with her let me know she only gave fifteen bucks for it, so she didn't get hurt too bad. I guess I am lucky to have a wife that would attempt to get me a knife. ::tu::
By the way, he bought one too... and he should know better!

But it s CHINESE... the next dilemma is how to uh, "display" it properly. I think it will go in my saddle bag and get lost, regrettably, next trip into the woods.

Over the years my wife has bought me several undesirables, I still display them with pride in the back row. "do these jeans make my a** look big" you better believe they do but my answer is, No Honey. Its the thought that counts right?

About 6 months(?) ago I saw one of those knives on ebay. I contacted the seller and said he shouldn't be selling counterfeits on ebay, he replied that he had no idea it was a fake and that he bought them from someone else...and how could he tell for sure it was counterfeit. I told him to email pictures of it to Case and see what they say...he dropped the listing.
I've had people on several forums tell me I shouldn't be bothered with these sort of listings and that they aren't hurting me if I don't bid on them. Well, I personally believe that scam artists hurt everyone and need to be held accountable for their actions...one need only look at the state of the economy to see the end results of idiots operating unchecked.

The last knife my wife bought me was a little Camillus #76 stockman. I really love it and the thought, even though she probably paid too much. I carry it often, and more times than not it is my go to church knife. I've been given many knives by her and others that are sub par at best, but I carry them sometimes...or take them out and oil them up and fondle them as if they were rare specimens. This is because the thought behind them trumps the knife itself every time, and when I handle the knives in question it is that sentiment that I see and feel.

Those of us who are the recipients of these gifts should only be grateful that here is someone in our lives that care enough to see and understand our passions.
The beatings will continue until morale has improved...

When I first started collecting pocketknives in 1988, I was buying Robeson, Primbles and 1970 ten-dot Cases.
For Christmas, 1988, my LYB got together with the man that had gotten me started collecting and bought two
very nice Case ten-dot knives in mint condition. He knew what I had and found two that he knew I did not
have. She wrapped them in the living room and put them in a too large box with some extra weight in it. I
would have never guessed that Sarah would have done that, and especially that she would have scored
two mint 1970 Case knives. It would have been a total and complete and very pleasant surprise come
Christmas morning.................... .........except that she left the bill of sale on the piano in the living
room after having wrapped them. I did not tell her that I knew. I acted very pleasantly surprised. And, I
have not told her, to this day, that I knew what she'd done.

Thank your wife for the gift. Swallow your pride and sacrifice your patriotism this one time and put the
knife right where you keep all the others. Do not cause her to feel any degree of disappointment in her
own properly motivated and loving actions.

My advice.

One Christmas my wife bought my one of those Darrell Ralph kits. I was tickled that she did that, and surprised that she would take a chance on that. The fact that she took the effort to search for something like that really touched me. I enjoyed making the kit, and it makes me think of her when I see it.

Like others have said, enjoy that your wife would do that for you. ::tu::

I agree wholeheartedly:it is definitely the thought behind it that counts. You are fortunate enough to have a woman who really cares about you and that is the name of the game.
My current wife;although she does not buy knives for me,will always point out knives to me if we are yard-saleing or at a flea market to make sure I don't pass them by.And she did surprise me for my 50th birthday by purchasing a great old typographer's case that she knew would make a fantastic knife storage unit.
Far better than my ex-wife whose usual comment after I had returned from a Sunday of flea markets(my only day off)was:"Another F***in knife?" That is one of the reasons she is my EX wife.
