Stag handled Remington on ebay
http://cgi.ebay.com/Vintage-Remington-S ... 3f08239391 I've never seen a shield like that on a Remington. Nothing about it looks like a Remington to me.

What is the shield supposed to be?
The back handle is smooth bone.

Re: Stag handled Remington on ebay
The shield loooks like part of one of the leaf shields you sometimes see on (reproduction ?) Uticas.
Looks like part of it has been removed in order for it to fit on the knife.
This knife isn't an original Remington, that's for sure.

Now that's a Frankenknife.
Pocket, fixed, machete, axe, it's all good!

I have a Camillus knife built like the knife pictured, less the handles, shield, and tang stamp. Looks as though someone got some parts or an unfinished knife from the Camillus factory closing and tried to make it into something it isn't.

I see that the seller has changed the description and referenced AAPK, I give them credit for doing that

Re: Stag handled Remington on ebay
Sellers added description:
"This knife is a counterfeit knife. The experts at AAPK ( A respected Online Knife Forum)have determined that this is not a real Remington knife. Therefore it is a knife that someone has made and used a blade with a Remington stamp on it. My husband says we will let the auction continue and if it does not sell he willc arry it himself. This is a conterfeit Remington Stag Handled Knife. It is just over 3" long closed and 5 3/4" long open. It has nice stag handles but there are 3 cracks. They are it the center rivets on each side and the third one is where the shield is pinned on. They are small and go from the pins to the edge. The blade has good snap and has not been sharpened very much at all I would say it is 95% +. "
I commend this seller for being honest

I purchased this knife. If it holds an edge I will skin deer with it. At least it wont end up
on the market again. I figured the seller deserved one bidder for being honest.

Re: Stag handled Remington on ebay
Ah! now you can see the entire leaf. It looks like someone simply bent the leaf around to fit on the knifes handle. In the original picture it looked like they had cut a portion of the leaf off to make it fit.

Re: Stag handled Remington on ebay
It appears that something has been ground of the reverse tang.

Re: Stag handled Remington on ebay
I have looked closely at that Rem Collector, I can see slight pitting and scratches from opening/closing.
I have looked in different kinds of light and with a 10X loupe. I don't see definite evidence that this area of
the knife has been altered, but I am no expert. I will post a pic that I tried to take through my loupe.
I can only guess that the 'fake' was done quite awhile ago though, there is a little green around the pins and
the cracks near the pins look older? It has half stops and operates well. The blade not being closer to ceneter
when closed is the only thing I wish were a little better. I am very happy with it.
Also posting a picture of same style tang stamp that is from 1935-40 (borrowed from knife7knut post, thanks)

Re: Stag handled Remington on ebay
Here is a knife that an AAPK member posted, with the same shield. Interesting I think, this canoe is a Carghill.
