Any & All Peanut Pattern History.. Please

Hello Lads & Lases,
Looking for any any and all history on the infamous and meager slipjoint pattern we know today as the peanut pattern. The nearest comparesent I can even think of to mention is the Stockman or Sowbelly pattern as it relates to the Cattleman pattern. As some of you may know these Stockman and Sowbelly patterns were patterns born out of the earlier Cattleman's pattern of the 19th century old west for a more "so called "convenient and/or civilized pattern to be utilized by the horseman / cowboy / cow puncher /rancher / farmer, etc, etc...

The Peanut maybe just a small pattern that has been around for several hundred years or more and was a brainchild of some super smart pocket-knife designer, but I think not. But, if that is the case, then OK.. But,, I have always found it in very close kinship with the dogleg jack pattern and other such patterns and wondered if anyone can add a little documentation on this history????.. If'n you all can assit me in this I would be most greatful in this adventure!

sunnyd, my opinion is that the peanut is a result of just another cutler trying to make a gentleman's knife from the many pen knife styles. A smaller knife to fit the watch pocket, and still rugged enough for good use. I have no idea where the name Peanut came from or what it may refer to, but I hope someone with a great grasp on knife naming history can help out.

Thanks very, very kindly for your post BC. Actually the Peanut pattern gets its name from the uncanny resemblance to the actual Peanut(legume) we all know and love to eat at Pubs at the bar, in trail mix and other nut infested finger foods.

But as far as the origin of the little slip-joint goes, I did get some very good assistance over on another forum site of the sharp edged kind.. However, since I don't know what rules apply here about cross-posting other sites material I thought I would refrain from that at this juncture..

I am pleased with my membership here thus far more than words can describe and since I am new and don't know what the hard and fast rules are governing such content I was hesitant at first to post anything that may be against the rules & regs here.
