Hello from west Texas

Post by OldGoat »

Hi all,

I am a new member to AAPK although I have been reading as a guest for several months now. This site is an amazing source of information and is clearly more friendly than other knife related sites. I know very little about knives or knife collections but I have a newly discovered obsession with acquiring both.

Hopefully my introduction and background won't be too awkward, but I find it far easier to speak extemporaneously about that which I know rather than to deliberate on what to write about myself without sounding too stuffy.

I live in Texas, I'm married, have no kids, and am semi-retired with the occasional consulting or tutoring gig. My educational background is in engineering and physics. The vast majority of my past employment has been in physics research and education, with a fair amount of semiconductor industry early on.

My interest in knife collecting lies primarily in a select few models of Schrade/Imperial/Ulster and their companion Sear's Craftsman versions. Hopefully I can constrain this interest to those few models before I wipe out my retirement funds. Unfortunately, though, I am beginning to view the expense as non-discresionary, like medical costs, so I may already be too late!

At any rate, I am pleased to become an official member of the AAPK community!
