What knife is right for me?

Hello there. I've been searching all over the internet and cannot find a knife that finds my needs. I'm looking for a knife that's good for whittling/carving that has a small wood gouge on it. Any other gadgets on the knife aren't needed but would be nice. I'm a bit low on money right now, so 50-150 is my price range. Anyone have any idea on where to find such a thing?

You might want to check out the Carvin' Jack and Pocket Jack, made by Flexcut...I believe Amazon.com has the Carvin' Jack for $106.00, best price I've seen. The Pocket Jack is 'bout half the price. I do not own one, yet but do know other carvers who own them, and have no complaints. Here's a link to Woodcraft, just so's you can see some pics and descriptions of the two. Thank you so much for the help! That's exactly what I imagined. Now for a knife that can carve that I can also keep in my pocket as a general knife, which of these would be good? I like all of them.

For an EDC pocketknife that you can whittle with, I'd simply say pick one that feels comfortable in your hand. To me a small handle just makes your hand tired and sore. I like the 3 3/4" or bigger (up to 4 1/8") if I'm gonna' use nothin' but a pocketknife to carve with. I like Case's medium congress and GEC's medium congress. The Case Medium congress is 3 1/2" (closed) and the GEC congress is 3 3/4" (closed). I like 'em both for different reasons/blade configurations. Dogleg Jacks' , whittlers, stockmans etc...ALL GOOD, just make sure you are comfy with the grip.

Also, you might want to consider getting something with carbon steel, rather than stainless steel. Carbon can be easier to sharpen and maintain an edge. Although, I do and have used SS blades with success. I guess it depends on how the steel was heat treated. For the most part, I'd stick with Case's Chrome Vanadium series or GEC's 1095 carbon steel, or any old pocketknife with good carbon steel blades.

Once you pick one you like, make sure you get those blades SHARP, and keep em' SHARP. Nothing will discourage you more than trying to carve with a dull knife.
