Ratchet..........Ouch!

Nice knife though.

Before Christmas my wife asked me what kind of knife I wanted. I took her to ebay and showed her some TL-29s, as this is a pattern I have a great affinity for as I carried one through the Marine Corps.
Well, imagine my surprise when I opened a present with not one but three TL-29's in it.
There was a Schrade Cut Co, a Kingston & a no-name.
I was really jazzed about the Cut Co & the Kingston. While I have 3 or 4 Kingston TLs, this is my first with a wood handle & the Cut Co is the only Cut Co TL I have.

I was so excited I went out and bought myself a Kershaw Splinter that was on sale.........well, actually a couple splinters, a couple 2420ST's and three 2415ST's. What can I say, it was a good sale, besides I have birthday presents for all the older males in the family for 2007.

Orvet the Buck is a Bantam BHW. It does fit very nicely in the hand.

You should have seen all of the knives I picked out for her to choose from and she picks this one. Can you say Case? Oh well.

My GF did very well this year. She got me two knives.

A beautiful Case Select Grand Daddy barlow. This knife has a filed backspring, and the handles are Bermuda Green. Just a gorgeous knife. It is now my favorite.

She also got me a 1994 Case Christmas knife. I can't find a picture of one of these. In came in a nice case with a 'coin'.

She also got me a Marlin 336c in 30-30, and a Henry pump .22 Magnum. I am spoiled.

Well here are my xmas knives. I got a MOP Puma 4 star lockback from my dad. Nice little knife, but I would have expected it a little sharper out of the box. My girlfriend picked me up this nice Moore Maker stockman with buffalo horn handles. I am really torn on this one. That carbon steel is just calling to be used, but its so pretty in the box. I believe this is one of the Camillus made knives so that's another reason to hold on to it. I may have to pick up a yellow handled version for my pocket...

I almost forgot. I also scored a Jantz Supply trapper kit and some wood & micarta for handle scales, as well as a set of files. I have just started to tinker with a couple old fixer uppers.

but part of the enjoyment is holding them in hand and using...

A LOT of Kool ladies found new homes I see.

Some of you did well, but my fat old lady let me down.

I even tried diamonds earrings the day after and still no knife from her.
She thinks they are weapons.

So I am going to show you my gift from 2 co-workers, they floored me.

I do not know any thing about these knifes or ever see any like them yet.
But I am sure some of you can tell me some thing about this American Blade Co.
One has a Damascus blade, my first one. It looks like it is real Damascus to me.

Please let me know if it is not.

Those both look to have been made during the short partnership between Jim Parker and Fain Edwards. The American Blade...was American Blade Collectors Association (as shown on the one blade and case), not a company, but more a larger number run "Club" knife.

Oh yeah, on a previous subject, this company morphed through a couple of partnerships/owners to become Bear MGC, then Bear and Son. Still making their own pattern welded steel (often referred to as Damascus).

Others may have more detail...I'm a mite lazty today.

I was totally floored when I opened one gift from my wife, and it was the DDR-3BL folder kit from that knife kit site. I had been drooling over these kits for awhile, but hadn't done anything about it.

I'm not a huge fan of the tacticals, but it is a beauty, and I can't wait to complete it.

It looks like the lines go to the shapened part of the blades.
Ok tell me more please does that mean it is junk Damascus or fake.
I have thick skin so fell free to voice you opinon. Cuz I want to learn.

Ken,

The steel is considered by most to be Damascus. I'm not sure of the overall quality, but I think it is fine. Real Damascus steel would have to come from the city of Damascus...just like champagne should come from the Champagne area/region of France. But most folks call pattern welded steel damascus...so your knife is A-OK, I believe.

Pattern forge welding dates back nearly 2000 years and is commonly sold as Damascus today which is made through a different process. There is actually a lot of pattern welded blades out there and not all are junk (some are, others are literally works of art) and can be a difficult process to master. Damascus that has no pattern on top of the spine can be pattern welded, but that is not a perfect way to tell if you have Damascus, pattern welded, or wootz.
There is so much information there that I would advise using Google to searh for Damascus Steel, Wootz, and pattern welded steel.
I did this about 2 or 3 weeks ago and there is a lot of information on each. It should be an enjoyable read for several hours.

Not in Mint condition, but I was very pleased, mom did well.

It's always nice when your friends/relatives buy you a knife. Even better when they "get it", and pick something quality out. I know, it's the thought that counts.

I am sure we have all received the Franklin Mint animal series knives in presentation boxes from a loved-one.

This year, I gave my son a Schrade Navitool and a red X-Timer. Sadly, the X-Timer is made in China, but it is red, and that's my son's favorite color. Not a badly built knife overall. The wife says "why does he need those, he already has a knife?".

I'm still working on her, boys....

well, heres a few case knives that i got for xmas. theres a couple that i bought myself....a brown bone 1980 mini trapper and a 1970 red bone barlow and my sister also bought me a very nice one...its a 1965-69 case xx bulldog clasp 5172 with box. i love the stag handles on this one. i was really tickled with it. i didnt have one of these patterns in my collection. anyway, i had some time to take a few pics of these today and thougth i would show em off. great looking knives everyone and i hope everyone had a great xmas!
