Opinel Folders--Should I waterproof hinge/joint?

My sister just got back from France and is sending me some Opinels to hand out to the rest of the family for gifts.

It seems I read somewhere that it is a good idea to seal the hinge area of the knife to prevent swelling and other problems.

Should I do this and does anyone have any hints on the best way to do it?

This is a great knife and needs no further adjustments, I own two of them and if you try to seal or swell the end the locking ring will not turn, thus damaging the knife! Some older Opinel knives don't have the locking ring...FYI

Thanks--I just put a good edge on them and passed them out--neat knives.
