Need work done on an older Case knife

I have a older Case whittler. I am a new collector and from the research I have done it appears that this is a 1970-71 jigged bone whittler. (Please see pictures) As you can see the third blade is missing. From what I can tell this is a cut-off pen blade. I am looking for someone to add the missing blade.

No Dale I do not have a blade. I am a new collector. I would not even know where to get one.

I'd be very interested in what they have to say. I know they repair what they can, but having the correct part is often an issue. While I've worked on more than one Case in my day, I've also been known to say that no one can fix a Case better than Case. For the record, I don't have the blade this knife needs.

It's just that I've been curious for some time just how far back their parts inventory goes back on some models. The response they give you may not be indicitive of all models, but like I said.....just curious. Any updates appreciated.

I contacted case about a 6318 (1970) with a broken blade, they told me they would happily replace it, it would be a 2010 blade not a 1970. But they will replace it.

So did you replace it? I am thinking of waiting until I can find someone that has a blade.

No, I found a 1970's knife with the main blade broke, but has the blade I need, so I've been taking knives apart and putting them back together to practice before I do this case, it was in my Grandfather's tackle box when he passed. I'll have it done in a few weeks, I've got three others to get done for some friends. Oh by the way welcome to the site, tons of great info and people.

So, Case replied to my email. Standard answer they have a warranty in place for these things. I can send my knife to them for evaluation and they will get back to me. This did say that they will replace the blade with a current blade so no chance of a 71 replacement.

Here is my next step. Does anyone have a 71 replacement cut-off pen blade that i can buy? Or better yet is there anyone out there that can fix this knife for me.

I'll double check my parts bins. As far as Case having a blade for a model 18, I'm not too surprised as it is still in production. The 6380 is another matter and has me wondering if they would have parts. If not, they may offer you a new knife.

You mentioned that they may offer me a new knife. What would you do if they did?
The catch is that you do not get the other knife back.

What would I do? If I wanted the knife to collect I'd hold out for that blade and try to restore it. If I were wanting to use it I'd let Case send me a new one (be advised that it won't be that model as it's no longer in production). It looks like the knife has parts of the handles missing. If thats the case, not even a new blade would restore it to collectable value, but again, if you want to carry it, those won't hurt it's function. I guess it boils down to what you want to do with the old knife.....use or collect. Even partially restored (just the new blade), that knife would still have lots of use left in it.

It is possible to regrind other Case blades to fit the knife restoring it to what would appear to be a proper restoration. If you want to send it to me with enough money to pay postage back to you, I'd gladly take a look at it. It may sound a bit funny, but if it doesn't resemble a true restoration, I won't send it out until it's right. Your call. Just PM me with your thoughts on the matter. I am here to serve.

I don't think that Case considers a broken blade to be a warranty issue. A broken backspring, definitely a warranty repair or replacement. A broken blade or handle, no.

As Elvis said, I cannot imagine that they would have any blades for a 6380 since that pattern was discontinued in 1978.

I sent a knife from my Grandpas to Case with a broken blade. It was a 1976 2 blade with
derlin handles. I sent them a letter telling them that my Grandfather was a steel fabricator
among other things and that the blade had likely been broken from abuse. I also told them
to fix with whatever they saw fit and please to replace both blades as other was rusted. I
requested that they call with an estimate and I would give them my credit card number.
They never called, just replaced both blades with 2008 year blades and completey restored
the knife. Operates like new. So, be honest and patient, I think they will replace the blade.
Probably with newer one. I plan to keep the post cards they sent with the knife, so whoever
ends up with it (if I die) knows why its like that.

I suspect that some of the 'fakes' out there are similar stories, prolly a small percent though.
I will call this knife my 'Case built, factory original, Franken-knife' lol.
