48 Trapper Jack

I just got my new 48 Trapper Jack from Mike at CK. A real nice one too! Some really thick stag with a lot of character on this one. I want to carry it, but is it too pretty to carry? I might get fish guts or fruit juice on it and stain the blade!!!

That is one fine knife I really like the pattern. Very good looking stag.
You are right in that it is to nice to carry. Better put it up and get another one to carry. Remember if at 1st. you don't succeed try again. 3rd times a charm. etc.

I have a Trapper Jack and Western Trapper,in the mail____will post photos,when they arrive---again,very nice choice,Barry,and that stag is,as thick,as I have ever seen on,one of the smaller patterns

I'm under the opinion that knives are to be used, but, like JWS said, put that knife away get another and which ever is less nice, use.
Okay I can't stop looking, it needs put away now. This is not fair, I want one.

Something about this knife screams that it needs to be a pocket companion, the blade longs for a nice aged patina and the stag waits to don a smoother feel in the hand after years of trust.

Or, it could want put away to be cherished in mint condition, I can't really speak knife yet.

Great looking thick stag! Love the clip blade on this model so much better than the one on earlier #48 Trappers. I like the pen blade better than the Western Trapper's spey blade too.

We definitely have similar tastes in knives. I have Trapper Jack #13 in Burnt Stag on its way to me as of yesterday afternoon. The stag on mine has nice texture, but it's definitely not as nice or thick as yours. I don't think I'll be able to resist buying another if they make it in Primitive or smooth ivory bone.

Well, guys, I decided that the stag on #4 was just too nice to spoil that knife, so I bought #8 here to carry in its place even though it has beautiful stag as well. I'll put #4 up and keep it mint.

Besides, #8 fits in my new sheath from D.M. Bullard! Number 4 is TOO FAT!!!

GJ, you made a great choice, the stag on both of those knives is something to be proud of, but #4 was killer.

Thanks, Johnny! The walk and talk on these knives is exceptional too. Thing snaps open and closed like a trap, the half-stops are crisp, and the lock-up is super tight with virtually no play. GEC is doing a great job in the building of these knives. They are just a pleasure to use and seem to be alive in the hand!

Great looking stag on both Gunstock. The pine cone background looks good too. #4 is just an AMAZING knife. I'd have trouble using that one too.

I put a shaving sharp edge on my unserialized burnt stag #48 Western Trapper and started carrying it a couple of days ago. Never been much of a Trapper fan, but this knife is changing that real fast.

I picked this one up yesterday.
Had to squeeze one more in before the end of 2010 as my stag-only GEC "one-knife-per-month" New Year's resolution went into effect today.

The stag that GEC is putting on their knives absolutely blows me away.
I have a few older Case knives that are as good but the new Case stag can't hold a candle to GEC's stag.
I also bought a genuine stag BJM last week and bought the last available one-of-four mammoth jacks.
I can't wait to see the new #23 Pioneer stags which, hopefully, will be available soon.

That's a ""beaut"" ----I got four of the older(2007) knives,off the bay,a few weeks ago,cause,like you,I missed the boat,when,they were first released _______I agree,the stag,is awsome,and they just keep,getting more?? Why can't the other guys,get this grade ????

I hope to see,GEC, try and improve their,jigged bone_______maybe bring back,some of the old style,jigging____I really do beleive,there is a market,for those style scales too !!!!!!!!!!!!! I bought a Schatt & Morgan,with some red bone jigged handles,just because of the old style look---I'm looking for a,S&H,with the Golden Root Bone,scales ??? I really wish I have been paying more attention to the trapper jacks when they appeared. That nice, broader clip point and the pen blade is the perfect combination. And that stag!

The #48 Jack is one of my favorites!! This green bone is one of my most carried GECs. Here are a couple more #48Js too.
