Please help me identify this knife

Post by Ravery4220 »

I inherited this knife from an uncle and have no Idea what it is. He claimed his father too it off a dead German soldier in world war 1. I have not been able to find any pictures or info on this knife. It looks very similar in style to a bayonet but it does not appear to have any way of affixing it to a gun. Hopefully some one on this site can help identify it and give me an idea of its value. I can also not find any markings of any kind. Please help!

I am providing a link to a picture on my photobucket, this site will not let me directly upload a picture : http://i1210.photobucket.com/albums/cc4 ... 20/043.jpg

Looks like it was made from a cut down sword.

It is not a Bayonet.

well, it is not a bayonete now...

the way the blood groove runs up under the guard suggests it once was a longer blade...

It having been cut down from a longer blade makes sense because i cant find any makers marks, the blade looks similar to the one in the link. This is quite the mystery
