Pronunciation: 'tak-ti-k&l
Function: adjective
1 : of or relating to combat tactics : as a (1) : of or occurring at the battlefront <a> <a> (2) : using or being weapons or forces employed at the battlefront <tactical> b of an air force : of, relating to, or designed for air attack in close support of friendly ground forces

I think Tactical is over used now a days. It is used as an advertising tactic these days, in my opinion.
Now tactical knives in terms of this site, I feel that is used to define one hand opening knives & some fixed blades. At least I think so.

tactical
Hi All;
The knife used to clean a half dozen trout for breakfast by a stream would IMO opinion be pretty darned tactical itself.
Quote:2 a : of or relating to tactics : as (1) : of or relating to small-scale actions serving a larger purpose .
That larger purpose being to feed me.

On second thought.
Well folks,
I found myself relating to the "tactical" knife I carried as a soldier. I read Lobo's post regarding the word 'tactical' liguistically, perhaps, being definitively usurped(?) as 'weapon' . I must say, after pondering a spell, I agree. I therefore deleted my initial reply and gained (brained) the knowledge;
If----- 'tactical' is subjective (it is) of 'tactic', then, a 'tactical' knife (or implement) would be then defined as any tool or device one would use, individual of thought, as being, the best tool/device/implement etc., to fold, spindle or mutilate accomplishing the task (ie: tactic)forthright beholden
.
For example, I might choose to use a wheeled cutter to section a pizza-pie, while, perhaps mossdancer (only as example, WB) might use a priceless Confederate States Cavalry Sword to accomplish this exactly same task.
Equally sized and palleteable.
Next, perhaps, Domino's will corner the market on Civil War swords???
IT COULD HAPPEN.
AAA--HHHEMMMM
Summarily:
I therefore submit: An individually defined "tactical" knife, as it must, encompasses ANY tool or method the tasked individual chooses/uses to complete the "tactic" at present hand.
My tactical knife was a SOG Trident (Bowie-type), still accomplishing a myriad of tasks/tactics. And, for which, I have and still would, trust my well-being; given a correct set of "tactics"
::blah:: ::blah:: ::blah::
Now, wasn't that easy????
LOVE the new emoticons Bry.
Take care all-,Glenn

Re: What defines a tactical knife?
My view is it depends on your tactical awarness,your skill with what you have [ EDC ] and the location,weather,etc.If your lost in the wilds,a good SAK and a machete would be a great 'tactical'knife.Like I said,it depends ?.Same question,what makes a good tactical gun,same answer,lol.Bryan wrote:What is it exactly that makes a knife tactical? I've never really thought about it till now...
