Need Christmas Tree Handle Material---FOUND

Post by Elvis »

I've got a knife coming in for repairs and the gent also wants at least one of the Christmas Tree (celluloid) handles replaced. If there is a newer material that looks the same, that would be great, but I'll use celluloid, need be.

If you don't have any but can point me in the right direction to pick some up, I'd really appreciate it. Thanks!

I thought I saw a set of Christmas tree scales recently on ebay.
They appeared to new slabs of celluloid that had not been drilled or shaped, IIRC.

If I remember correctly, someone said that celluloid manufacture has been banned in the USA because of the explosive hazards associated with manufacturing the stuff. I have heard of some companies importing it from Germany, and it is likely that someone is making it in China (they make everything else don't they). I have no idea who is selling it here in the USA. Perhaps if you called a company like GEC. Someone there may know of a source or they may even have a set they will sell you.

There appears to be some tortoise celluloid for sale-

Good luck Bob and show us some pictures of the finished project.

Thanks Dale. I just checked the "bay" and nothing available at the moment. I'll keep checking. So far the link you gave looks like it's having server problems, so I'll try it later. ::shrug:: I stocked up on what few pieces of celluloid I could find a few years back and while it's came in handy for a few restorations, my hopes of ever running into another cache of it aren't looking good.

Hi Elvis. Did you find any Christmas Tree Celluloid? I have a few sheets. Maybe we could do some trading. I need a knife rehandled in pearl. :D
