Need Help w/ Ivory and a Knife
Hi all,
a little background info first:
I'm from the South (SC to be exact) and almost all men here carry pocket knives.
I'm tired of people asking me if they can borrow my knife to open a box or what not and not having one...
So I've decided I definitely want one...
Now I have to admit, I'm not very knowledgable about pocket knives, I just know a lot of people down here
carry Case knives...
onto the questions:
I looked at some Case pocket knives today and I really liked them (they seemed to be well made and I love that they are made in USA). I found a place that carries 100% legal pre-ban elephant ivory. I was curious if there was anyone on this forum who does knife repairs or if there was anyone who can recommend a company to me.
All I want to do is take a brand new Case pocket knife like this one here http://cn1.kaboodle.com/hi/img/2/0/0/11 ... 4243277000 , and take off the
covers and put real legal pre-ban ivory back on... (with the case logo back on the new ivory covers too)...
can someone please help me out?
also, is Case the pocket knife company I should stick with? Or should I go with a different company?
thanks a lot,
Jack
PS this is an X-mas present to myself and I want to make it a very beautiful knife so I can pass it on to my future born son as a heirloom
thanks again!

Hey Jack,
You can contact Muskratman or Orvet here on this site for the re-handling you have in mind. Sounds like a great idea! GEC has some really good patterns to choose from also.
Hope you find what your looking for………………………

There are several members here; that can put together a knife; like you describe. This is a Case with preban ivory that MM did for me. Sorry for the pic of the filework; dosen't do it justice it's really quite impressive. One thing I like about Kaleb (Muskratman) besides his work; he marks the knife on the inside of the liners; as not to take away from the knife.

nice knife man, muskratman said he could do it, there would just be a 14 week wait... arghhh!

I've played around re-handling about five now, and MM's work is worth the wait, a true artist!

JackTheRipper Hello and welcome to AAPK.
Your post made me think a bit.
First thing is I am not a Case fan of any thing made after 2000.
If I had to have a Case make sure it is older than 2000.
I am not sure why you want a user to let others use with those super handled to drop and crack. Due to the cost and beatuy I would not let any one use it.
I have some Northwoods with pre-ban Ivory. I am sure the D2 steel is top steel. I think the blades were made by Queens and the rest made in Gladstone, Michigan by Northwoods. As far as quilty goes any Queens will be better than a new Case. Take a Queens trapper and rehandle it would be one way I would go. They also make S&Ms as their top line.
Well you asked and I gave you my honest opion.

Jack;
Here is one you may think about also.
GEC 73 EC Ivory Casien 2 Blade Trapper 2007 # 054 of 134 SS 3 3/4" Cost about $90.00
Now your looking at a GR8 user, that will hold up a long time and let others us it.
