Nice find off the bay

I paid $20 bucks for this one cause I knew it would clean up fairly well.
Tang indicates 1955 to 1988 but I'm sure it was made around the late 50s to early 60s.
The celluloid shells are in great shape, I wouldn't have bought it but they looked really good. I asked several questions and the seller was very upfront with the imperfections.
Blades were a little discolored but I think they will clean up good enough. I used a Cape Cod Cloth on them and took some ScotchBrite to the inside of the springs and the bolsters. Then used the Cape Cod on the bolsters as well. Gave the whole knife a good long drink of oil over night and you wouldn't believe the gunk that came out of it. Both blades snap like crazy now!
Wish I had taken some before pics but here's the finished result so far. Thanks to Dale's and others posts concerning cleaning and getting the snap back to this old beauty!
The Imperial Jack knife, 3 inches in length. The funny thing is this knife was probably around a $1 new,,,,

Perry whats a cape cod cloth?? I need something to get some very small scratches from a cv blade. I was gonna post a thread and ask around but maybe you have the answer?

Thank you guys! A Cape Cod Cloth is a jewelry polishing item but if you need to add shine back to stainless or any high polished surface, this is a great little item to use. For very little effort and a little elbow grease, you can bring back shine to those nickel bolsters or SS blades that have lost a little luster. There is some chemical in the cloth that works like a very fine buffing agent. I would not recommend this cloth for anything but high polished surfaces because it will take a satin finish and make it shine in not much time at all. Best used for removing small surface scrathces. Deeper scratches or the like would require more of a buffing compound and wheel to remove.

These knives are often advertised as having Nickle Silver bolsters.
In fact they are not NS, but another alloy!
A magnet WILL stick to them.

They are still highly corrosion resistant but will rust and pit in extreme conditions!

My guess is that they are made of a combination of steel and nickle

Do we have a resident metallurgist on the forum?
