Happy Jack by Chuck Garlits

This chicken ran across the road in front of me this morning. Has anyone ever heard of this brand?

I did a little research and found the following in the description of another eBay knife.

This is one of Chuck Garlits's Hughes Cutlery knives, which are merely Happy Jack Knives, with distinct etches that we believe were made for the Hughes Hardware Company of Highland, Indiana. This is a rather distinct Hughes Cutlery knife since it bears the US flag etch on the front of the blade and a horse etch on the back. Additionally, it has the circled Hughes Cutlery name. Most distinctly, however, the knife has a distinct Hughes Cutlery shield, with crossed swords and NOT the Happy Jack shield that appeared on many of the Hughes Cutlery handles. This has somewhat, seemingly, pale jigged red bone handles. The jigged bone handles seem to be without any cracks or chips, and the metalwork seems to be without any peppering or the like owing to the stainless steels employed by Mr. Garlits. (In his Garlits catalogue he states that 440C stainless is his standard material.) We do not believe this knife shows evidence of having ever been carried or otherwise used or sharpened. ... "HAMMERS & HOMILIES: GORDON GRAHAM" by B.R. HUGHES Cutlery hall-of-famer B.R. Hughes brings us this profile of this East Texas bladesmith, preacher, and all around nice fellow who's turning out some mighty attractive knives.

If you search eBay using "Happy Jack" as key words, eight of these knives come up and seven of them have a starting bid or buy it now of $225 - $350.

This is a first for me. Can anyone enlighten me further?

CCBill enlightened me by telling me that Chuck Garlits is a brother to "Big Daddy" Don Garlits of drag racing fame.

I sold 5 Happy Jacks earlier this year for prices ranging..175.00 to 225.00

Theyre actually quite nice quality.. Im surprised the quality of a knife.

I have a Happy Jack, a beautiful Swayback. Based on the example I have, Happy Jack’s are really well put together.
