I bought a Canal Street Cutlery half moon pie trapper sometime last year, the quality was horrible, the blade really was a disappointment, there was no snap in the blade with lots of side to side play, the edge was as dull as a box O' rocks. The pattern was perfect though, it was everything I looked for in a perfect pocket knife, the bone scales were one of the nicest I have in my collection.
I finally decided to send it back, the scales were so nice I was hesitant to send it back.

I got the knife back about five days later, with a hand written letter explaining the other knife was not able to be repaired, so they sent me a new one.
I was one happy camper, but, I had just got my new GEC 73L a few days before, so I just put the moon pie away, I got bored of the knives I was carrying so I decided to grab a new one out and I reached for the moon pie, and it is a great EDC. the edge is scary sharp and the snap is perfect.

The only issue is I have no idea what the steel is in the blade, if anyone has any idea I'd love the info.
thanks

It's light, the perfect size, and I love the assted opening!!

I picked this knife up at the weekly Thursday auction a while back, I reccomend everyone here (new and old members) come and join us every Thursday night 8pm est time! Lots of fun and very cool knives mostly at great prices.

bd, you do love your Pauls. I've always thought I'd like to have one but I put it off until they've gotten to the point where I can't afford one. Sigh.

Better watch those Owl Heads closely. The newer ones are made in China..........

Here's a post about them I dug up;

LOL, You are probably right Bob!

I am wondering though, isn't a country of origin stamp still required on all imported knives?

Dale

Many of the China knives now come with "peel off" China stickers . I have personally seen them on Owl Head knives that are stamped "Munich Iron Works" on the tang , but I am sure that there are many others .

Pesh it may or may not have a sticker on it. Some sellers remove them in hopes that the buyer will be fooled into thinking he is getting a nice German made knife.

I don't know about the Trouble Creek line but I'd approach them with caution as well.

My most recent favorite EDC (and in my pocket right now) is a GEC Northfield #12 Tootpick in Snakewood.

Crazy pretty wood scales - no pic yet, but I got it about a week ago and can't seem to carry any other slippie since I got it ...

... supplemented by the Spyderco Native in my back pocket ...

A new favorite that I have been carrying-
8OT single blade a.jpg
Here is the backsprings-
8OT single blade b.jpg
A nice slim pocket friendly knife.
It was an Schrade 8OT with a broken blade or two. The main blade was nearly full, so I removed everything but the master blade & spring. I put it back together after bluing the spring and blade, (because it looks nice and helps to prevent rust).

I love the cutting power of the large 1095 carbon steel blade.
I don't even notice it in my pocket.

Cool little carry Dale. If I was as handy as you with knives I would most likely be carring something I made or modified every other day.

I like that Dale. Keep it sharp and you don't need more than one blade. Isn't it great what a little imagination can do when combined with some skill.

Congrats Earl! I don't think you'll be disappointed in what you receive.
Fit and finish are usually very good indeed. ::tu:: I haven't received a bad one yet and I've been buying them since the first year of production, 2006.

Nice one Perry.
For some reason I have had a thing for single blade knives lately.

Dale

Here is a Camillus frame with a single Western (by Camillus) muskrat blade.
Western-Camillus single.jpg

I put chestnut bone scales on it. I think one of my boys is getting it for Christmas.
