What do you collect?

I have loved pocket knives since childhood. I am stuck in an office during the week so I do not have the need to carry anything other than a slipjoint or small lockback for EDC purposes.

Do you collect what you carry or do keep them out of your rotation to keep looking new?

I collect...of course pocket knives. ...I have only certain ones that I EDC.

Lets see if I can make any sense.. I collect mostly Case stockmans 18s, 47s, 75s.. Most go into the collection and I edc a few also.. Make sense?? John

I buy folding knives. Most are of the "Gentleman" variety, but I started with Tactical folders and graduated to more sophisticated items. All of my knives are included in the EDC rotation, with the exception of the Large fixed blades which were gifts. I have carried the 2 small Boker Plus knives on occasion. But as I have said in other posts, I am beginning to admire the traditional slipjoints knives. My latest purchase was a Black pickbone Hen & Rooster Stockman and a Blue Corelon Case Peanut. They have Stainless blades, but I just had to have them anyway. My next purchase is probably going to be one of those "Canoe" style knives, I am thinking Queen. What do you think about Queen?

Mostly OLD jacks and whittlers from the from the U.S.A. and 4 blade stockmen and 3 blade stockmen with a punch. and a few others. I love the history that can take you back 100 years or more and you can hold it in your hands.

Queen makes a great knife. You may already know this and if so, forgive me for repeating it but I think it bears repeating now and then. Queen has made knives on contract for several big names, such as:

I collect OLD pocketknives, prior to 1940 or so. The more unusual the better. Also collect old knife openers, miniature knives, guns and pocketwatches. Especially like the old Remington stuff. Old knife catalogs and or advertising stuff.

To answer the second part of your question MC1130, I have a group that I chose from for my EDC's. They're newer knives for the most part and replaceable. I have some to show and some to go.

I like the history that a knife represents therefore I chose hawkbill /pruner as representive of working cutlery produced by almost everyone. I collect these but usually don't carry one. I also collect those knives that catch my eye. These usually become my EDCs. I think that Jacks would also have a wide appeal for the collector of history.

A little of everything,if I like the way it looks I buy it.
but mostly Cattaraugus,Tryon, and New york made knives.
Though Lately I've been thinking of selling most of my other knives and just collect Cattaraugus because they're my favorites

My first love in collecting would be military knives...fixed and folders. Most aren't really suited for EDC, although a couple Mil-K-818s usually get carried often.

I like fixed blade hunters, same EDC issues though.

Any nice, tight slipjoints always catch my eye...I prefer the NY state made ones as I consider them "local" brands that seem to be disappearing all too fast. Stockmans and canoes are nice and one will usally be in my pocket.

I've picked up a half dozen or so "tactical" folders, but my interest has waned for them, and I think I've reached my limit. They just seem too impersonal to me, if that makes any sense. That said, one is usually carried in a belt pouch with the clip removed when I'm working, as it is nice to have access to a one hand knife when I'm holding something and really need to cut something.

Typical load might be:
Victorinox SAK classic (toothpick and scissors get a lot of use)
" " tinker or Mil-K-818
Schrade OT or UH stockman
CRKT M4 plain edge (don't care for serrations) on belt

Less than at least 2 knives and I feel naked....

That sounds like a booming endorsement, it is settled. After I bring home the Benchmade Gold class, I will concentrate on Slipjoints and getting MY Queen Canoe.
