Schlatt & Morgan Dollar Knives

Read in Goins that about 1911 Schlatt sold off and Morgan renamed the Co. something like "Dollar Knife Company". Goins goes on to mention that the shields were colored.

Does anyone out there have examples of these knives? Did S&M also continue to produce their older catalog of knives?

I have no idea if this was one of the "dollar knives" you asked about or not.

Here's my old Chris Wolf that I stole off ebay because it was advertised as CHRIS WOLE..






Wonderfully crude. The backspring would probably hold up a new car. No nail nick and a bear to open. THUNDEROUS snap on closing.
A real hand full of a "using knife" with no frills.

The dollar knives associated with the Schatt & Morgan Company were stamped “Dollar Knife Corporation Atlanta”, starting in 1922. Later the corporation was moved to Titusville and the knives were stamped with the familiar SXM stampings (see copy of the flyer below). The knives in this program were bone and pyralin handled one or two bladed knives. There is published booklet of the history of the Dollar Knives that is available from Knife World and can be occasionally found on eBay, about $6. I have scanned the covers of the booklet and have are attached them also. This Dollar Knife program was a sales and marketing effort of Schatt & Morgan.
Morgan acquired a trademark in 1926 for a Dollar Knife with a blue shield inserted into the handle. I have never seen any of these and don’t think they were ever produced. Schatt did do a program with a red shield inserted into a celluloid waterfall or imitation onyx handle but these have never been documented as “dollar knives”.
