Fun Weekend!

I went to the Parker's knife show this weekend and came back with a few goodies. It was my first show and auction. I can't wait till May. I met my knife allowance pretty quick but I think I came out pretty good. The pics aren't that great but I think they'll do. I came home with 7 knives. I just posted the one I thought people would be interested in. I also bought a Leatherman Micra and a Kershaw AO Scallion. I averaged the cost of all 7 and came up with $30 a piece.

Nice knives. That was a great show wasn't it? I don't think I ever did see everything. There were thousands of knives there.

I would like a little info on the stockman in the tin. I have just started collectiong so I have never seen a shield like that before. What is it called. I also have no idea what the bone color is called either. Thanks for everyones help here on the boards. I have learned alot.

Out here in Caleeeeforneeea (Gov. Arnold) folks don't seem to know what a knife show is, well here in Sonoma County anyway. They banned Gun Shows from any public property and out here knife shows are combined with Gun Shows, so, no knife shows, Sonoma County anyway

. I'd sure like to make it to some of the bigger knife shows but it is hard to get away. Guess I'm a bit envious of you all that get to go. To many bleeding heart liberals out here, getting time to leave. Congratulations on your new found treasures!

Hukk sorry the here this about knife shows.

It seems YOU do to many things that are going by the way side( like diving for shells)

I fell the same way about swap meets. We don't have any here.

Pawn shops and E Bay things like that is all I have to find any old or junk knives.

Thanks for the comments. I really hate that deal in California. I got to thinking that I bought four different patterns. I guess I can't decide what I want to collect so I will have to collect them all.

I thought about going all tiny toothpick but I have more trappers than any right now. Since I have seen the cheetah cub up close I am leaning more towards them. There was too many to choose from. I really wanted an ocean blue mint set this one guy had but the wife thought differently. ::blah:: Another to stick out in my mind was a gold lip pearl stockman classic prototype. I didn't even bother to ask the price on that one.

Come on up here to Oregon. We have one of the best knife shows on Earth in April at the Lane County Fairgrounds in Eugene. We have had a lot of the libs move North and have a bunch of them here now, but we also have one of the strongest state constitutions as far as the right to keep & bear arms. That is why switchblades are legal here.

It is kind of hard to choose (I know). I like the old fashioned Jack pattern. The Barlow is close to them so I collect them also. The TL-29 is a variation on that theme, so I collect them also. I have been collecting stockmen for years. I also collect most anything Schrade, or made by one of the companies related to Schrade, (Ulster, Kingston, Imperial, Schrade Cut Co, Schrade Walden, etc).
Where does it all end?

Answer: It doesn't!

It all seems to be related. Enjoy the collecting & get what you like!

Been thinking about it, folks live in Medford and 1 brother and his family live in Portland. I also hear that they have a great knifemakers guild up there (attractive thought). Beautiful country around there. About 15 years ago I was salmon fishing at Newport. After limitimg out in only an hour we came in. (only 4 poles for 6 fishermen, fishing to hot to put one out for everyone, to many tangles) Anyway I read the Oregonian, had a funny article called the Californification of Oregon, referring that they had to many Californians up there then.
I need to let my knees heal after surgeries, I workout at the gym 3x a week and I will bump it up to every other day next week. Having a lot of pain but not in the joint, just muscles, so, the folks at physical therapy say keep on going (I'm doing my own thing now at them gym, check in at physical therapy once in a while). Another month or 2, I will be starting to look for work. Gotta have GRIT!

Try checking for knife shows out yonder in San Jose, Sacramento & down south of you in Southern Calif (City of Lakewood) + Vegas as I hear there are a few that happen in those places, I also think they have one in San Fransisco at the "Cow palace" every year? ....Dale is correct about the one in Oregon, its a nice one for sure! ....trlrider77, nice knives my friend, really like that Stag Trapper set! ....Ken, out here in Magnolia off 1488 they have a small but nice group of old knifers that sell flee market old style at that I go too every Spring & Summer!

I am 100% country boy stuck in a city (Santa Rosa POP. 200,000), not even knives can get me to San Francisco or San Jose, I avoid going south at all costs, the freeway infrastructure is at least 10 years behind the times. I will go to the gun and knife show in Vallejo to the east as I don't like to travel very far, except to go North. I just recently sold my PU truck, man, try parking a 4x4 Chevy Silverado in San Francisco, I couldn't even get inside some of the parking garages. I mostly grew up in Kelseyville (POP. 750 at that time, about 4,000 now and I think that's big

). Anyhow, as soon as my knees are healed, I plan to move, was thinking of Oregon or Texas since both have work in the technology field and similar occupations. They both have supporting knifemaker organizations. It's not just the population that makes me want to get out, but it is the attitudes of the general population. I'm 50 years young and I'm lucky to have both parents alive and well. They've been gone from the Santa Rosa area for about 8 years and they can't believe how rude people/drivers have become in that short time. That is my primary reason to get out of California. I'm a knife collector, beginning knifemaker/sheathmaker, diver, hunter and outdoorsman. You know, it's real hard to find folks with similar ideals around here these days. Mention gun, shooting, or hunting and folks around here think you are a terrorist. There also more gangs around here than you can count. I haven't changed with the times, so, time to move on.

Johnnie is right, the Texas Gulf coast is perfect for diving, fishing & inland this time of year Deer & wild Hog hunting is good! ....Out where we live ya'll can get it all (country that is), guns are number one here with knives a close 2nd, Oregon is nice too but too much rain & snow for this old country Cowboy!
