Hello Folks, With all the counterfiet knives floating around trying to mimic old patterns and markings I thought it might be prudent to rest our eyes on the genuine article from time to time. Some of us here are seasoned collectors, but this is mainly for those that aren't. Pictured below is a very old Case pattern I just acquired at Parkers Show in Pigeon Forge. As you can see this knife is marked WR CASE & SONS(c.1905-1914). Even though this piece is obviosly very old the old Rogers bone handles are crack and chip free. The knife is also in uncleaned condition(which to my mind makes it more desirable). The blades are also very full for a knife this age. Notice also the hammered handle pins, which are often seen on knives of this period.

And you came back with a real nice find too.

Do you think Knifekid made it back from Pigeon Forge too.
Did you see him there?

Well, lets see, there was some excitement on the drive up through the North Ga. Mtns, Thru Cherokee Indian Reservation N.C. to Pigeon Forge Tn. Heavy rain and wind all the way, had to stop several times for trees to be cut out of road. One fell so close it scratched the top of my Truck. This is one of my favorite shows because the southeast is Case Country and there are alot of older knives there. Seen alot of old friends, Jim Sargent, Yes Perry was there, Mark Z, Joe Seale and others. Ate breakfast and talked knives with Tony Foster. There was generally alot of swapping knives and lies, and a good time was had by all. I saw a the first ever tested trapper with cracked ice handles and a bail). I've seen the handles but not the bail(it looked authentic in every way). We talked about making moonshine, peach brandy, muscadine wine, and about good looking women. Not enough room.

Hello Gary, That is a very nice old knife; that is what I look for something that not everyone has, old, nice condition, rogers bone and not mess with.So many of the dealers will have a knife like that cleaned. Good find.

Hello back stockman, I agree with you it makes me sick to see one of these old knives cleaned up and all shiney, seems it takes the flavor right off of it. I've been collecting older Case knives for quite a spell and have quite a few. There is such a demand for them that many are out-right fakes

ok. Good thing that tree did not get you man. I was in Wis. one time and a big tree jump out right in front of me so I hit it.

Well you know I am still new here and don't have a camera yet but ,I am learning how to haggle. Did you haggle over this knife? If you did (we all know you did) can you let me in on any lines?

I have read the KNIFE WORLD 4 times so far. But it did not tell me what camera to get!(brand and modle).

Hi Justtold52,
You are right there wasn't an injun to be seen. Yes sir I am a haggler, It don't matter if they don't want but $30 I'll try to get it for $25. I usually just tell them that I'm gonna have to hitch hike home and look at 'em real sad. With the older Case stuff though, if you can get it reasonable, you better get it cause it will be gone when you get back. As far as cameras go I use a Kadak Z700, but there are other good ones too!!!

That's a real nice find Gary, I enjoy seeing those fine old knives. AND, just look what knife talk leads into.

Kinda funny, all my longest phone calls ALWAYS start with knives. ::blah:: Great way to meet some really nice folks. Congrats on the knife, it's perfect as is.

Thanks for the compliment Hukk, wish you could have been there. You are right, no telling where knife talk is going to end up. Knife People are the greatest if they are full of sheep dip. Justtold52 when you get that camera you let me know if you need further help. It is a great camera that has access to manual settings that you need for close up work like knives. When I get a chance I'll post a picture of a small homemade light box I made, because you can't use the flash on your camera.

Yes, you have to do it every time you turn the camera on, because it goes back to the automatic settings when you turn it off. Its real easy though. I will help you. Soon you will be taking pictures like this

You are plumb welcome 4ever3. smiling knife there was a very detailed article in last months (Dec.) issue of Knife World. It was wrtitten by the very man who showed me the ropes, Mr. Mark Zalesky. Since I only have so much room here on the forums, my first suggestion would be to read that article, then if you still have questions I would be happy to help.
