Mine is the second gen kabar. Dude I love my BK2!!! It fits my needs as a survival/ camp knife very well. It is heavy but im cool with that. I havent batoned any logs with it(prefer a hatchet or machete for that anyway) but its more than capable to take that sorta punishment. I say go for it get you one. I got mine on ebay for 60.00 including shipping.

By the way Adam at equip2endure has some great reviews. Check out "nutnfancy" also. he doesnt have one on the bk2 but tons of other knives.
....but as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.

Late entry I know, but just wanted to add for anyone in the market for a Survival type knife …

I understand the Beckers and the RAT/ESEEs are fine strong knives. I have no personal experience with those but am definitely considering …

What I do have are the KaBar Extreme D2, and the Gerber LMF II.

The KaBar is … well it's the KaBar we know and love, but with Kraton (read: non-slip and nearly indestructible) handle and D2 Tool Steel.

I believe the Gerber LMF II was originally designed for US Aircrew survival. It has a Plexiglas breaker / skull crusher on the butt end, and a really grippy rubberized handle. Sheath is very adaptable (also Molle compatible), and has a Carbide sharpener built in. I cannot say enough about the ergonomics/balance/handling of this tool. YMMV, but you should at least handle one of these before you decide.
