S&M Queastion

I have 3 S&Ms that look the same to me.
But yet the have differant numbers and names.

S&M Cigar Whittler 42265 Winterbottom 1 of 100 2003 3 5/8"
S&M Baby Sunfish 42101 S-6 Carved Stag 1 of 100 2004 3 5/8" my guess worng box.

The numbers are on each box. One box is smaller.Perhaps worng box...

All have 42265 eached on the blades but echings are differant.

The thing I want to know is what is this pattern?? BABY SUNFISH??
Is it carved stag or winterbottom??

Ken, as far as the 042265 pattern, I ran up and down the information highway a few times and saw it described as both Baby Sunfish and Cigar Whittler.

On Clarence Risner's web site, he shows a carved peach bone Baby Sunfish in Series #11 (2001) with pattern # 042265. There is also a Baby Sunfish in Series #12 (2002) that has buffalo horn scales that has pattern # 142265.

That would be fine if the AAPK - A Dandy Knife Store didn't have a Bone Baby Sunfish, pattern 042265 listed (item # 27410) AND a Winterbottom Stag Bone Cigar Whittler, pattern 042265 listed (item # 26056)

Now if you're still not confused enough, I found these handles described as Winterbottom

Maybe the best bet is to contact Queen, find out who to email the pictures to and ask what the heck you have. I know I'd be interested in the answer.

I think what you'll find is that the #42265 has been only a Sunfish Pattern anything else to the contrary is a cut and paste issue with the seller...and if it's the pattern you're interested in..2004 also saw the handle in Golden Root.Amber Wormgroove,Mahogany while 2005 introduced the pattern with the S&M signature bolster in Smooth Brown,Crimson Wormgroove and Bark Jigged Fire oak.

As far as the two images posted..the top one has been what Winterbottom looks like to me while the bottom images appears like a carved bone would look like.

Could it be that Queens (S&M) only made 100 for sale, and put their common etching on the blade? Called it Baby Sunfish Carved Stag Bone?
The some guy like Clarence Risner's had Queens (S&M) SFO make 100 of them in Winterbottom? That would explain the different etching and the same pattern number. In the same year too.

The #42265 have been only a Baby Sunfish Pattern. That’s good I will list them all as that then.

As far as the two images posted at the top one has been what Winterbottom looks like to me while the bottom images appears like a carved bone would look like. I agree with you but the #42265 are on both knives and so is the year 2004.

Winterbottom is a jigging pattern. The color of the dye used can vary greatly but the jigging will have long straight furrows in the bone surface.

The carved stagged bone is a jigging pattern meant to replicate the look of natural stag in a bone handle material. The furrows are deep like in the Winterbottom jigging but they are more random in their disbursement and length.

The top picture Ken posted is one of a Winterbottom bone handle and the second one is of a staged bone jigged handle. The dye color used in both is similar but if you study the jigging you can clearly see a difference.

This all makes good sence to me know. Cuz Queens could not make the exect same knife after putting the 1 of 100 on a knife.

Like a sneaky way to sell (almost copy) 1 of 100 to keep the price up on the almost same looking knife as the company did and most people would not know it.
