new to collecting

I'm new to collecting knives and was thinking about basing my collection on camillus. Is this a good choice or not

I'll answer your question with a couple of questions of my own............

Do you like Camillus knives ?

What is it about them that has led you to consider collecting them?

Now that wasn't too hard was it?
The truth of the matter is knife collecting is a great hobby that allows you to do it just the way it suits YOU. You get to decide what to collect and what not to collect. You get to decide how, where, and when to add to your collection or to cull out parts of it.

I think the key to enjoying knife collecting is to find a niche you enjoy and then just simply go for it. Sounds to me like you are well on your way already.

And in answer to your question........................ YES, if you like them it is an excellent choice. There are plenty of variations and they aren't so rare as to be impossible to locate. Enjoy!

I like camills because most people that don't collect haven't. Heard of them... is ebay a good place to buy

Its always good though to keep some Cases and Queens around! Have fun and always collect what you want. I have a variety of patterns and brands.

Flea bay is a great market place, but there are fleas and you will catch a few along the way

Camillus is a great knife to collect, in my opinion. Collect what YOU like and not just because someone else has a different opinion!

As mentioned, you're off to a great start with that Craftsman that no one has been able to positively identify yet

There are a couple advantages to collecting Camillus products.

For one, there are lots of them! I was able to assemble a reference collection of most pocket knife tang stamps by buying well-worn knives on eBay, for around $50. Camillus worked well as a model of understanding some of the dynamics of the knife collecting hobby.

For another, take a look here: http://www.collectors-of-camillus.us/ This is an excellent site to get an idea of some of the diversity of Camillus' products over the years.

With a Camillus collection, you could go a lot of ways. You could be a generalist, collecting whatever Camillus knives you find, or you could specialize in a lot of ways. Perhaps you like one particular model, so you collect all the variations of that model over the years. Maybe you want to collect all the knives illustrated in a particular flyer or catalog. The important thing is to have fun with it.
