I believe your soddy was made by Camillus Greg. I could be wrong, I have been before, twice this week already and it's just Monday, just ask my wife if I'm wrong. :D Nice soddy there too. Big Monk that Black Gold furtaker trapper and the burnt stag handled GEC like it are super nice. ::tu:: I have the Northfield big jack with the pinched & slanted bolsters. Mine has only been sharpened 1 time since I got it new. Been trying to dull those 1095 carbon blades ever since then to test the edge holding ability of the blades. Haven't dulled it yet, and that's cutting almost everything a man cuts daily, plus some dried Hickory stick whittling to make an axe handle. I haven't cut anything that would be considered as abuse on the Northfield. GEC has got their carbon steel blades as right as rain as far as holding an edge. Can't say anything about their stainless steel cause I've never used one. I've spoken to others that has used the stainless steel bladed GEC knives and they swear by the GEC stainless steel. I have noticed that most GEC knives I've handled have came new from the factory as what could only be called a dull edge, but they sure sharpen up to take a sharp edge and hold it. Jethro, as usual you have some real nice lookers too. ::tu:: I really like that black swell end S&M with the pearl shield. Is it a spear master blade and a pen secondary? Bet it has purty swedge cuts on it's blades. What's the O.A. closed length of it? Travman can you get your postman to drop me off one of those Winchesters? Nice catch on it. ::nod:: ::tu:: It shows it has some old reliable class to it. I've got to get me one of those swell end S&M jacks like that black one of yours Jethro, and I need one of those new Canal Street swell center folding hunters that's a little over 4 inches closed that they just came out with. You guys are showing some really great knives, keep them coming. ::tu:: ::tu::

This one came in the mail today. A Keen Kutter stockman - K3433. It's 3 7/8" long - according to Alvin Sellens book, this one dates to 1935-1942.

I like the bone scales and lined bolsters on this one. Someone used this one, but cared for it really well.

Thanks Johnnie, Marty,

I haven't heard of Camillus making knives for Simmons. Simmons had their own factory in Walden, NY, and then moved to New Haven, CT when Winchester bought them in 1922 - 1929.....Shapleigh then bought E.C. Simmons in 1940.

This particular model knife (K3433) was made 1905-1942 when it was 4 inches (3 7/8" from 1935-1942)

But I'm no expert - all the above info came from Alvin Sellens book.

Marty,

Having said all of that - I agree with you - it sure looks like a # 67 Camillus premium stock knife.

I like Barlows and I like Kabars so what could I do but bid on this one on ebay. I think I got a good deal because of the strange serrations on the main blade that I posted on another thread, the knife being dirty and the tip slightly tipped and bent. What really sold me was the tang stamp - who could resist that deep chiseled bold stamp that leaves no doubts that this is a KABAR. I was able to straighten the tip and cut a new edge to rid the knife of what TJ suggested was inflicted by an electric blade sharpener with the hiccups. I also cleaned the knife more than I usually do, but that good carbon steel will quickly develop a new patina.

Unk,

Here is a Cam I have from the 40's (I think) that made me think of yours although mine has no shield.
This is what made me think there might be a connection between K- K and Cam. ::shrug::

Aside from my bad pics, What do you think???

This came in the mail yesterday. It's my first 110. I've been wanting one for a long time and I got this one for a good deal. I may have to carry this one and pick up one to keep.
