This is the 3rd Case 6488 without a shield that I have seen in the last 8 -10 years . Has anyone else noticed one of these ? It dosen't appear to have been "tampered" with . All opinions welcome !

Re: Case 6488 no shield
I have never seen one like that myself. I'm going to assume that there are no shield pin holes visible inside the liner?robinetn wrote:This is the 3rd Case 6488 without a shield that I have seen in the last 8 -10 years . Re: Case 6488 no shield
I think the knife has been re-handled and someone didn't have the shield to replace.
I don't think the knife left the factory without a shield.
I have over 20, 88 patterns and have never seen one sans shield.
Just my 2 cents worth!
Curious to hear from others
Paul

Re: Case 6488 no shield
Looks like Case bone, I think the holes are in the liners and no shield was installed at
the factory. I also have a 88 or two all with shields. I don't think this knife is a mistake
just a few are like it.

Re: Case 6488 no shield
I have owned over 200 #6488's in the last 8 - 10 years and have had only 1 other than this one without a shield . I have a friend who acquired one 2 - 3 years ago and he still has it put away until we can learn more about it . I have had 2 newer Case knives(1-canoe & 1-6332) that I bought from a distributor that had regular Case shields on both sides when I took them from the box . I assume that if this could happen then so could someone make a mistake and install 2 back handles ???Knife Nut wrote:I think the knife has been re-handled and someone didn't have the shield to replace.
