Who wants a collecting JOB ?
Here me out first then if it’s oked by me we can try this out.
I have a 1990’s case knife yellow handle display. It has 7 yellow handled case knives. I am told that it is not good to store a knife in the ½ open position. Because it’s hard on the backsprings. But yet most knife displays show them in the 1/8 to ¾ open position. So what I am looking for are mint like and with factory boxes to take the place of the real nice mint ones I do have (to store the best ones in the closed position)
And still show off the case and knives at the same time. (Help me build a 2nd set).
3137
32087
3254
3220
3207
3318
31048
Now here is a KIKKER. I can give this job to someone here (I think). But I would like to learn more on how to haggle on knifes. I only went to one Knife show and tried to pick up some help. If I stood to close so I could hear them they both stopped and just looked at me like move on boy. So I would like to know what was said and done to each of the 7 knives that would be ok to post here.
LIKE A BUY by BUY or STEP by STEP telling of this job. (Do we have any storytellers in this house?)
A team of people could do this too not just one man?
If this is wrong to do here just delete this post.

I sell as well as buy at knife shows. It's easy to haggle and it is honorable and rather fun. That's why the two guys were looking at you strangely, horning in on thier fun.
"Is that your best price?"
"Can you do any better?"
"How about if I buy two?"
Keep it friendly. Enjoy yourself. Most sellers at shows expect to give a little.

Gr8Scout Yup Pers that’s what I wanted to do was to horn in on their fun and learn more. I did not want to buy what they were haggling over. I did not what a 3 some.
Thanks for your 3 haggling lines too.
On your trips do you ever see any of the 7 knives I am looking for with factory boxes? Could we work out a deal $$$$ and you go haggle and have one on one fun with the seller! If any money left over its YOURS for you’re haggling work?
This will work for me if any one wants to step up and let me know.

(Have I got you shaken your head yes yet ?)
Now I will wait for your answer.

well if you don't mind me throwing my two cents in. First thing that i like to do is scope out the whole show first. Just to see if any other dealer has the knife your wanting. Nothing makes a better bargaining chip if you know you and the dealer knows you can go somewhere else.
Another thing is to remember that a dealer needs to sell his knives. he or she has spent money on table fees, gas, posibly hotels. etc.... it they don't sell anything their losing money.
when you found that one knife you want. Decide what price would make you happier than all get out to buy the knife for. the dealer will do the same. Meet in the middle and everyone is happy.
And then after you have tried everything else and the dealer will not come down another nickel. and you have decided you won't give that nickel either. Thats when you pull out the big guns and say (and you have to stick to your guns no matter what) "Well thanks anyway. Maybe i'll find one on ebay." and thats when you walk away without looking back. Useally the only time the dealer won't change his mind is if your trying to buy the knife for less than he bought it.
just one more word of advice. PRACTICE. if you are trying to do all of this and your not believeable you'll never win.
have fun and good luck with knifekid

Ken,
I agree practice is good. You can practice in front of a mirror so you can watch your facial expressions. Try not to look too interested, even if you are dying to get the knife. If you are drooling on the knife and jumping up & down like a school boy at recess, the seller knows he has got you.
Be cool, calm and collected and don't look too interested, even if you have been looking for that knife for 18 years!
Just my $.02,
Dale

Thanks to my excellent 'lines', you have him on the ropes, Justold52!
See? Child's play, and fun as well, isn't it.
Next Lesson: Widow Skinning. Like when the aged husband--and avid outdoorsman-- passes away and you 'offer' to relieve the poor widow of all those knives, guns, fishing rods that can only remind the dear lady of her loss.
Sometimes I hate myself.

you guys are bad
Haggling is half the fun of kinifing, I am not bragging, but my dad is one of the best hagglers I have ever seen. I was with him one day at a flea market and he got a pair of knives (the guy wanted $15 a piece) for $17 for the both of them, and thats not some of the best deals he has gotten.
If I go wandering off and try to strike a deal with a guy, but I can't break him, I go and send dad back, he rarely fails. All of the tips you guys posted here are great ones, all are in his bag of tricks
. I'm still learning, but I'm gettin' better
. It helps if the fellow dosen't really know what he's got, thats why I frequent more flea markets and swap meets than knife shows
.
Some goes for gun dealing too.

Knifekid ; Woo slow down partner knife friend.
Did your Daddy or Grandfather give you those knives?
Do you have a lot of sentimental value to them?
If so I really do NOT want to get between you and your granddads feelings.
How did you get them in the first place?
Let's walk over here to the corner cuz to many people watching us now ok partner.
This is much better yes.
I was thinking more like $10.00 per knife and $3.00 per box. Add them to gather you get Hummmm. Sorry I was never to good at adding things well. I think it comes to about $13.00 each and those times ??? ??? 6 are close to about $75.00. I think that would be more like it my knifer friend and more fairs to both of us. Yes And you pay for the insurance too ok. Good I do not like checks. All I have is cash will this do for you too
Cash that is?
What state were you born in?
What state do you live in now?
Do you hunt Deer there?
Speaking of DEER look at this girl coming up the aisle.
Would you like to dance with this one? All night long?

MERCY!!!
You put her in the deal and I'll send you a store full of new knives!
Reckon we're gonna have to finish this on the phone, I'm leaving in about 10 minutes for the Pigeon Forge Show. Might take a little longer to get there, I'm thinkin' of driving through Hazzard County Georgia about now
I'll send you a PM with my cell phone and we can finish the deal up. Then you can come back and tell all of the guys how bad you roughed me up.

Knifekid put this in my Private Messages. ;(Hey Bud,
I'm gonna be on the road for the next several days.)
Ok my knifer friend the Pigeon Forge Show. Yes I to would go too the show too. If I had a sweet wifey like yours to run my store. In fact I would like to have a Store too. All I have is a wife that does not like knives or me.
This brings up a good point!!!
I think I will wait for you to come back if it’s ok with you because I like to deal with the BOSS.
You tell your wife to set those knives under the counter under a rag for you to look at when you come back from you trip Please. I know if I talked to your wifey on the phone it would not take me long to jump in my truck to see her and then ???? WHO knows I just might get 1/2 your house and 1/2 of your store. (YOUR HAFE if you get what I mean).
No SIR ! I am a weak man when it comes to ladies. I just can not stop pleasing them.
So I respect you so much I will keep my money and wait until you get back because you are my knifer friend.
Knifer friends need to respect each other and the GOODS they own.

Next Lesson: Widow Skinning. Like when the aged husband--and avid outdoorsman-- passes away and you 'offer' to relieve the poor widow of all those knives, guns, fishing rods that can only remind the dear lady of her loss.
Well that might work in Michigan and here down in Illinois.(my wife just might be one that can be fleced EZ)
But for the most part I would be very carefull trying that in Wisconsin. You just might find it's hard to walk back to your car. With out those thingys between your legs. Wisconsin girls can shot and use a knife real good.

Welcome back I see you're finally getting your feet back on the ground.
You forgot to answer some of my questions."What state were you born in? What state do you live in now?
Do you hunt Deer there?
My brother just got his first 10 point buck this year with a bow.
He was so proud of himself that he saved as much of him as he could.
Check out this photo of his back door.
Knifekid ; Woo slow down partner knife friend. Do I look like I just fell off the orange pickers truck?
Your math is just like mine but you went the WRONG way lol
I think your feet have not landed on the ground yet.
I think I too made a math error too. So I will fix that now.
It's not $75.00 like I said but I will pay you $78.00 pluse $2.00 for your feet to land back in this corner with me ok.
I waited all Saterday and Sunday for your return. How was your trip?
Did you know that Beer Nut's are now $7.98 per BL.
And Deer nuts are just under a BUCK.
