Knife Novice needs HELP!! PAL/Remington ?

Hi All,
I'm a knife novice who was recently in the right place at the right time. While at an estate auction of a 87 yr. old retired Army Col., I bought a box lot that had several old pocket knives. I've done a good bit of research and 2 of them really stand out, but I'm not sure I have my info. right.

1. Both knives are engraved on the blade with "PAL CUTLERY CO. MADE IN USA".

2. Both knives have rounded bullet shaped blades that I can't find on any of my research on PAL.

3. One knife appears to be a bone handle, has 2 blades, and a silver shield emblem on the outside.

4. The second knife is red and gold candy striped pyremite? with only 1 blade.

Can anybody help with some info on these? I know that PAL bought Remington and used some Remington materials for a while. Are these a cross between the two companies? Any idea of value? Are these worth putting away for my grandkids? The picture isn't great but I can post more if needed. Any help is appreciated.

Welcome,

According to Goins' Encyclopedia, Pal bought Remington's cutlery division in 1940, and continued to use parts and stock for a few years.
However, this marking seems to be identified as being in use from 1945 until the end of production in 1953.

Your knife appears to be a nice old swell center pen knife, with a spear master and a pen blade, and tipped (short) bolsters.....of medium desireability to most collectors. It does look to be in quite good shape, maybe a special piece to the former owner? That, of course, is speculation on my part.

Looks like a candy stripe celluloid (might be some other composition), shadow (no bolsters) pen knife (most likely) or single blade jack knife (less likely), of the same time period. This knife was much easier to make than the first one, therefore, a mite less desireable as a collector. But it still looks good, and I'm not suggesting use/don't use, or save/don't save...as that is your call.

JMO. Maybe others will have more for you.
