hubertus leverlock, pivot pin?

Hey guys, I've got this Hubertus 6.25" leverlock. As photographed, this is as far as it will fire on its own when released. Thought I could hopefully fix this myself. The pivot is obviously tight, is this generally a matter of just replacing the pivot pin? Any advice would be welcome.

Did you try some oil on the pivot?
Put a few drops and 'wiggle' the blade a bit. It might fire fine after this..

Agreed and I have also found that you really have to push the lever down fully. On the back half of the lever. You have to imagine there is a sear pin that has to clear the blade, if you don't push it down fully the pin makes contact, puts pressure on the blade tang and slows it down. I just notice this because when I show friends my lever knives they have a hard time getting them to open sometimes and I says let me see that and it works fine. I know there really shouldn't be a "trick" and I really don't think it is, but that being said give it a try.

yeah, oiling the pivot was the first thing I tried. Thanks, for the head's up on making sure the lever is fully pressed too, but unfortunately, that's not the case either.

Contact Bill Deshives at [email protected] He is the Hubertus repair rep in the U.S.A. I sent him some work and he was not only fair priced but his work was first class. I'm sure there are other people in AAPK that will agree. If you send him an e-mail he will try to walk you through it before sending it out to him. Check his website out to see what he is capable of doing too.

Thanks Wazu, I sent Mr. Deshives an email, just to see what my options are. I spent about forty-five minutes last nite, just oiling, opening and closing, firing and refiring the knife, hoping to loosen it up and smooth it out abit. It actually did fire two or three times, (blew my mind!), but it wont repeat this and definitely needs repair. So, yeah Gus, I'm up for it, if its within my powers (read amateur skill set). What does an issue like this usually suggest?

Location: North East Tennessee I will suggest the process that I often use with success but you have to proceed with caution or you will get the blade too loose . Open the troubled blade to 1/2 stop (90 deg.) . Take another knife with a thin pen blade and place the pen blade slightly between the tang of the tight blade and the liner . Slowly ease the tight blade toward the closed position being careful to not push too far . Pull the blade back and test your progress . You may need to repeat this process a few times to achieve the desired result . I repeat my caution , do not push the blade too far or you will need to tighten the blade again . See pics below .

Where did you buy it if you want to do through the hassle you could return it. I was going to suggest something similar to the above

I've heard of using valve grinding material and working the knife several times to help wear away some of the metal making it too tight. I've also heard it's really hard to remove all of it when you're done. Just a thought.

Thanks guys. The blade already had a bit of wiggle when fully opened, so i was hesitant to try the pen knife technique just yet. I just sent it to Bill Deshivs. I'm gonna let him have a look and see what he suggests. If he can fix it for not too much I'm just gonna let him do it. If not, then I'll try that first. I'll post when Bill replys, thanks again guys.
