Suggestions for Knife Rolls?

Hello all. I am looking to purchase one and am interested in any comments/suggestions I could get. Currently have about 50 knives and would like something that could hold alot. American made would be a bonus too. Any comments? Thanks!

I use the same ones as Bill

Most of mine are the 12 count version (no particular reason for that).

eBay item # 300052569168 looks pretty nice. It might be a better option if you like to get out your knives and admire them all lined up in one place ...all at once.

The sak-ups have a seperate conpartment for each knife. They make for a hide and seek ...pop one out at a time and see what you get kind of thing.

No chance they will ever escape their elastic holders and scratch each other up that way though...

There are always trade offs

I use both. The sack-ups are indespensible for small knives (small pen knives and small wittlers, small stockman, etc) that would fall through the elastic bands of the larger Case storage case. I use the larger one for bigger knives. In a large collection, I believe you will definitely need to have both to keep each knife properly stored.

I agree that both methods have merit, and I use both as well.

I felt Matt originally asked about knife rolls, and that's why I pointed to the Sack Up type roll.

The flatter cases are much better for display, IMO. However, it has been my experience that after a certain amount of time the elastic develops a "memory" of sorts. You can replace a small knife with a bigger knife, no problem. But, if you want to replace a couple large knives with smaller ones...well, not so good when you fold them up to travel. That's just been my experience...your mileage may vary.

I don't store celluloids with other knives in either system, but cells go into an individual Sack Up, and are then kept in open air...but that's just because I'm anal about that I guess.

Anyway, there are certainly several ways to skin this varmint.

Appreciate the input I've read so far. Do the knives have a tendency to rub/ride/scratch next to each other when they're in the elastic holders versus the individual pouches?

On the flat cases, there are 2 flaps that fold over the knives so they don't rub directly against each other...plus, you can try to alternate larger/smaller knives so it forms a more uniform "flatness" when folding.

As El Lobo mentions the flap covers the knives. Some folders do not have this feature or have thin flaps and I use them also. BUT, what I do with these is to put a thick cotton terry cloth over the knives before I close the folder. My wife absolutely loves this, she got to go shopping for new towels.

It works quite well. I cut the towels to fit the size of the folder.
