This is the first non-folder I ever Purchased but the price was right and the flea market had not a single folder worth buying so I was needing a fix!

I dont know athing about it except the obvious
Bone handle
German made
Rostferi - Solingen
Kissing Crane tang marking looks like to me
measures 7-5/8" long
blade is a tad under 4"

Any guess on age? Value? any help is much apreciated

Rostfrei is a name of stainless steel.

I agree on the Rob't Klass "Kissing Cranes". Appears to me just from what I can see to be 50's to 70's era knife.

Somebody probably "scrimshawed" the tractor on it after they ended up with it. I'd say that was done here because that style of tractor has never been popular in Europe. Looks like it was supposed to represent a Peterbilt to me. Single or "coffin" sleeper conventional tractors pretty much went out of style in the 80's when the length laws were relaxed and they started putting double sleepers or "walk-in sleepers" on about everything.

Similar style knives on ebay seem to sell all over the place, from pocket change to 50 bucks and sometimes higher.

Looks like a neat knife.

I had a similarly made knife stamped OVERLAND SOLINGEN GERMANY.
I did some research and found that there were several companies that imported German knives after WWII. I suppose some were even started by G.I.s.

According to Goins, Overland was operated by Fred Overland of Los Angels CA, from 1951-1953.

I imagine there were ample opportunities to buy knives from German companies who were struggling to rebuild in the aftermath of WWII. They were probably happy to put your company name on a small batch of knives just so they had work to do and some positive cash flow.

Unfortunately, from my research, it seems that many of these companies did not last a long time after the war. I think most where gone or bought out by the 1960s and almost certainly by the 1970s as Willie mentioned.

With some hard rubbing I was able to get the tractor off the handle. Looks much better!

as far as this knife is concerned i think it was a neat little find.

i have seen other models of this exact knife but they all have
deer etched on the blade.i like the stag on the one as well.
has some character.

i personally wouldnt have removed the rig.i cant help it.i like restoring and having things restored
but each case is different and with this knife i would have left it.

i just picture the bored trucker bunked up for the night.bored and just starts scrimming WITH A BIC PEN! LOL!

If the drawing was decent I would have left it but every time I looked at it I thought it looked like something my 5 year old neice would have done. It had to go!
