Thoughts on this one? The tang stamp looks funny to me.

Might be legit, but i'm with ya, that Case xx stamp might be a grind and re-stamp job. Its just got a off centered and funny look to it.

Terrible restamping job and poor handling job. That is a real Case 47 pattern though, most likely a 70's dots 6347.

In the 70's that type of counterfeiting was VERY common. Take a new Case knife and rehandle it in stag and stamp it with the XX stamping or an older stamping. Or rehandle in pearl and stamp it with the older WR Case stamping.

A lot of XX 5347s, 5254s, 5383s and others were made that way, along with a lot of pearl handled 08 and 83 whittlers and 18 stockmans in the older stampings.

I second to the fact the handles fit poorly. Another problem, it doesnt have an XX era shield, besides the stamp is a poor job. A quicker way to tell at a glance without even opening a blade is the end rivets are too far away from the bolsters. A true XX end rivets are much closer, compare these on some known true knives. The stag also at a gance does NOT have the old style look. I was around flea markets in the 70's in eastern Ky and these knives abound. It would be nearly incomprehensible the amount of these counterfiets which people have tucked away in collections for the last 30 or so years. Sad part is they are left to the next generation who has no clue that the "valuable stags" their Dad or Grandpa cherished were $30 counterfiets mast produced in the 70's era.

Guys I want to commend each of you who have posted comments on this thread for the thoughtful way you have stated the flaws you see in this knife. You have done so in a way that will greatly help others to avoid being fooled by such a knife, and in my opinion, that is what this Counterfiet Watch forum is intended to do. Good job!!
